Positive Behaviour for Learning:         Exploring Our School Values

You may start to notice some new PBL values posters appearing around our school!

As part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) journey, students will spend the remainder of the term exploring our six proposed values: Respect, Resilience, Honesty, Responsibility, Safety and Kindness. In class, students will explore what each value means, what it looks like in our school and how it connects to stories from the Bible.

The posters around the school will help keep these values visible and encourage conversations with students about how we can demonstrate them in our classrooms, playground and wider school community.

At the end of Term 3, our students will vote for the values that mean the most to them. Then, in Week 1 of Term 4, our families will also have the opportunity to vote. Together, these votes will help determine the values that become part of our school's PBL approach.

We look forward to exploring, discussing and celebrating these values together!

A MASTERCLASS WITH BEN VASILIOU AND MAGGIE DENT

FOR PARENTS & EDUCATORS OF TEEN & TWEEN BOYS

The digital world did not invent the idea that boys and men must be strong, successful, dominant, in control and emotionally tough. However, it has certainly amplified it, especially for young men.

We only need look at the statistics around boys’ literacy, school readiness, behaviour, loneliness, men’s mental health, suicide and male violence to see the cost of these rigid, persistent stereotypes.

So, what do today’s boys really need from us, to move beyond these narrow ideas of boyhood so they can one day grow into healthy, happy, respectful, accountable, whole-hearted and connected men?

On 23 September I am joining Maggie Dent for a live online masterclass to talk about exactly that. What boys are actually carrying right now, why so many of them carry it alone, and what the people who love them can do about it.

Maggie is one of Australia's most trusted voices on boys, parenting and resilience, and she has spent decades helping parents and educators navigate these exact challenges. I think this is going to be a really honest conversation.

Here is some of what we will be getting into:

  •  Why are so many boys are struggling in silence right now, and what is   actually driving it
  •  What boys are telling us about loneliness, connection and what they wish the   adults in their lives understood
  •  The masks boys create on the way to becoming men, and why they create   them
  •  What is really going on underneath disruptive or withdrawn behaviour, and   how to respond to it
  •  How to shift a boy's relationship with asking for help before things escalate
  •  What boys actually need to grow into men who feel deeply, think critically   and treat people well

The session is online and runs;

- Wednesday 23 September from 1pm to 2:15pm Sydney time

It includes a live Q&A, a PDF handout, and lifetime access to the replay if you cannot make it on the day.

If you have a boy in your life, as a parent, carer or educator, I genuinely think this is worth your time.

This is one of those conversations I have genuinely been wanting to have in public for a while. Maggie brings something special to everything she does and I think together we are going to cover some really important ground for anyone raising or working with boys right now.

I hope to see you there.
