Shelter Together
On Friday 7 August, the Year Eleven Certificate IV in Business & Work Skills students set up and delivered their Shelter Together Community Bank Albany Homelessness Fundraiser at the PCYC. The event aimed to raise funds for the Albany Community Foundation's (ACF) Crisis Response Fund.
Each of us played an important role in organising and running the event, with support from Stacey and Ashley from the ACF. The evening featured a range of activities, including couch conversations with representatives from community support agencies, a performance by the North Albany Senior High School Year Nine Band, and an appearance by The Rusty Cage. The Shanty Men also showcased their talents, along with the Great Southern Grammar Year Eleven VET Music students, who delivered an outstanding performance.
For a donation, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy food and drinks, thanks to Rustlers Steakhouse, who served chicken cacciatore and beef curry. There was also a BBQ cooked by volunteers, as well as hot barista-made drinks prepared by Year Twelve Hospitality students. A huge thank you to Mrs McAllister and Mr Fowler for allowing the use of the coffee machines and instruments, and for their support with setup and pack-down.
This year, we set a new record for donations, raising a staggering $75,701.83, surpassing our ambitious goal of $75,000. Every dollar stays right here in our local community and is already being used to support people experiencing the many different forms of homelessness. Anyone facing a housing or accommodation crisis can access support, with more information available on the ACF website.
A huge thank you also goes to Mr Rose, Mr Owenell, Mrs Franklin and Mr Irving for their support throughout this project. We would also like to acknowledge the current Year Twelve class, who provided a strong foundation for what we have achieved this year.
In 2026, we have made an impact, brought our community together for the benefit of others, and set a new benchmark for future fundraising efforts. We are incredibly proud of what has been accomplished. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated and supported us.

Students Explore Printmaking
We have had a fabulous time with Laura Newbury, our Artist-in-Residence, who has challenged students to be creative in their perspectives and compositional designs.
Students in Year Five and Year Six have thoroughly enjoyed discovering the process of creating a collograph print and seeing the final result emerge from the printing press.
Laura also worked with our Year Twelve artists, inspiring them as they develop their final pieces.
Works produced during Laura's residency will be on display at our Whole School Arts Exhibition, 'Our Place', at the Kingfisher Fair and Open Day on Sunday 13 September.

Principal Coffee Morning
