Principal's Message

Dear Families, 

It was lovely to have the students and staff from Sacred Heart join us on Monday for Combined Schools Day. It is always a special day when we can get together and celebrate with activities, mass and a shared lunch. I heard so much positive feedback from the day and it was so nice to hear the staff and students from Sacred Heart comment on our welcoming atmosphere, careful organisation, wide open spaces and the genuine sense of community that was evident throughout the event.

I am looking forward to heading off to Türkiye and Greece on Monday for our principal's pilgrimage to walk the footsteps of St Paul. A reminder that if you need anything while I am away during the last two weeks of Term 3 please contact Karen Gosling or Ilona Cetrola.

Matthew 18:15-20

In Sunday’s Gospel for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus is giving us some guidelines to mend broken relationships and restore our friendships with those who have hurt us. The simple message is that Jesus wants us to live together as one happy family, loving and caring for each other, being fair and ready to forgive, being helpful and speaking kindly to one another and working together to build up God’s kingdom. 

We are reminded that Jesus entrusted the Church with the power to give mercy and forgiveness. One of the greatest resources we have as Catholics is the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This Sacrament helps us recognise our own failures and our need to change. It is through our own experience of God’s forgiveness that we are given the grace to forgive others. Reconciliation helps us make the changes we need to heal the broken relationships in our lives. 

Our Challenges this Week:

Reflect on your week and the ways you have interacted with others. 

• Have your dealings with others been honest?
• Have you been kind and helpful?
• When difficulties arise this week, try the approach of this gospel: listen, talk things through, try gentle persuasion and aim for reconciliation, not accusation.

Fete News

Please make sure you read the School Fete page of this newsletter as there are lots of updates and opportunities for families to help out. We have had a dedicated group of parents led by Kate Holdsworth who have been working tirelessly to make sure the fete is a successful event. I thank them for all the work so far and encourage everyone to now get involved as we get ever closer to the day of the fete!

A Warm Welcome

We are delighted to welcome Jeronimo to Year 2 this week. Jeronimo has recently joined us from Colombia, and we are excited to have him as part of our school community here at COHR. Starting at a new school in a new country is a big adventure and we look forward to helping Jeronimo settle in, make new friends and enjoy all the opportunities that Year 2 has to offer. We know our students and staff will make him feel welcome and supported as he begins this new chapter. Please join us in giving Jeronimo and his family a very warm welcome to our school. 

MACSSIS

You should have received a link and code to complete the MACSSIS family surveys. These surveys are now open and we encourage all families to complete them. We would love to hear positive feedback on the things we are doing well as well as areas we can improve in. The surveys will close at the end of Term 3. 

Confirmation

Our Year 6 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday. We congratulate our students on this next stage in their Sacramental journey. Thank you to our Religious Education Leader, Millie Hutchings and Year 6 teachers Ilona Cetrola, Karen Gosling and Donna Nugent for their role in the planning and preparation of this significant time in the life of our students.   

We pray that these children will grow and develop in their faith and continue to deepen their relationship with God.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Ruby Arnott (COHR Class of 2024), Serena Riotto (COHR Class of 2025) and the Sacred Heart Girls College Aerobics Team for winning First place and National Champions last weekend in Brisbane! 

Reminders

• Don't forget hats should now be worn every day for the rest of the year. 
• Our Father's Day Breakfast is on tomorrow from 7:30-8:45am. We warmly invite all dads and special men in our children's lives to come and join us for a hearty breakfast of bacon and egg rolls. Thank you to all the families who can help out with cooking and serving. We ask parent helpers to arrive from 7am. 
• Our P-2 students have their excursion to Myuna Farm on Monday 7th September. We are looking forward to a great day.
