Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday 26 May, our Year 3–6 students participated in the Primary Years Athletics Carnival, enjoying a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm and outstanding team spirit. Students competed across a range of events, including the 100m, 200m and 400m races, as well as shot put, discus, long jump and triple jump. Congratulations to Chirnside House, who were announced as the overall winners on the day!

Primary Years Learning Showcase

Our Primary Years Learning Showcase was a wonderful celebration of learning, with hundreds of families visiting to collect their passports and be transported on a journey of learning led by our students. Acting as the captains of the voyage, students proudly guided families through classrooms and specialist learning spaces, sharing their growth, achievements, and discoveries.

Throughout the evening, students demonstrated the learner profile attributes of being courageous communicators and reflective learners as they discussed their strengths and areas for growth. Families embraced the opportunity to be curious inquirers, asking questions and engaging in interactive learning experiences across all year levels and specialist programs.

We sincerely thank our families for supporting this event with such positive enthusiasm and for celebrating learning alongside our students and staff. The showcase was a beautiful reflection of the rich learning taking place across our Primary Years Programme and the strong partnership between home and school.

Please note that the Learning Showcase does not replace our parent-teacher conferences. Premiers Reading Challenge Update

Our students have made an outstanding start to the Premier’s Reading Challenge! We now have over 50 students who have already completed the challenge and more than 1000 book reviews submitted. This is an incredible achievement so early in the year! We encourage all students to continue exploring a wide range of books, adding them to their portal, and writing thoughtful reviews.

Detailed reviews help recommend great books and inspire others to discover new favourites. Our school library has an extensive range of Premier’s Reading Challenge books available. Students are encouraged to speak with their library teacher for help finding their next great read.

Year 2 Excursion to Velisha Farm

In Week 4, our Year 2 students visited Velisha Farm in Werribee South. During the excursion, students explored how local produce is grown, packaged, and transported to help supply businesses such as Aldi. The experience helped students make meaningful connections to their Unit of Inquiry, How We Organise Ourselves, and the central idea: Communities can be organised to support people and their needs.

Year 6 ALWS Incursion on Migration

On Thursday, Year 6 students participated in a rich and engaging learning experience with ALWS as part of our Unit of Inquiry, exploring the central idea: “Migration can be a response to risks, challenges and opportunities.”

The students deepened their understanding of migrants, internally displaced persons (IDPs), asylum seekers and refugees through a range of interactive activities. One powerful activity challenged students to choose only five essential items within one minute, helping them empathise with the difficult decisions people must make when fleeing to safety.

The students also listened to real-life inspired scenarios and identified whether individuals were migrants, refugees, asylum seekers or IDPs. Through videos, photographs and discussions focused on push and pull factors, particularly within African contexts, the students developed deeper empathy and understanding. They asked thoughtful questions, made meaningful connections and expanded their prior knowledge throughout the learning experience.

Year 1 Local Places Excursion

Last week, our Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Wyndham Park as part of our How We Organise Ourselves Inquiry Unit. Students explored the natural, managed and constructed features of local places while discovering how these spaces support our community. Students walked across the bridge into the main street area, observing local shops, roads and buildings before exploring the Werribee River and the surrounds of Wyndham Park.

Along the river, students heard about the important role the area played for local Indigenous peoples many years ago. They also enjoyed investigating the nature playground and identifying features they could sort into natural, managed and constructed categories. Throughout the day, students reflected on how community spaces meet people’s needs and discussed ways we can care for and respect these important places. We all had a wonderful time at our Local Places Excursion and enjoyed exploring the many features that make our local community special.

Year 6 Gala Day

On Friday 22 May, our Year 6 students participated in an exciting Interschool Gala Day, competing against students from other local schools in AFL, soccer, volleyball and T-ball. The day provided a wonderful opportunity for students to demonstrate teamwork, sportsmanship and determination while enjoying some friendly competition. It was a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm and school spirit.
