Sport

With Hoop Time last week that officially wraps up our coverage of basketball. Just before the big days arrived students were able to refine their skills.
Junior students had some dribbling and goal shooting practise, doing so by using a balloon to assist them with recognising where to move their hands when trying to keep control of it. It seemed a bit ridiculous but their concentration sharpened up!
Senior students continued working their transition and team work skills by completing 3 vs 2, 2 vs 1. This familiarised students with spreading themselves out offensively and practised providing support in an advantage situation. They also competed in a circle box out drill which focused on taking an offensive player out of their rebounding area.
Hoop Time report
What a great success George Street Primary School had at Hoop Time this YearOur Grade 3/4 rookies team managed to finish the day with two wins and a loss and showed some great team work with everyone managing to get at least one goal for the day.
Our Grade 5/6 rookies team also managed to walk away with two wins and two losses the team also showed a lot skill development occurring through the day, particularly amongst those students who had never played a game on a HILAC basketball court.
Our Future Stars team the George Street Giants performed very well, winning four games and losing one. This was enough to qualify for the finals against Dunkeld. Unfortunately our day ended there with Dunkeld beating us by 7 points, but our team gave it everything they had. Showing great team work, support and sportsmanship.
A big thank you to Jarryd and Bradley for attending on these days. Tara McFarlane, Anthony McFarlane, Aaron Brunt and Dale Smith for scoring for us and to the parents and guardians who came up to watch their children play.
