Prep News

This week in Prep...
This fortnight in Mathematics, our Prep students have been busy exploring the exciting world of measurement! We have been learning that there are lots of different ways to measure length using everyday objects around the classroom. The children had so much fun creating their own playdough snakes before measuring them with paperclips, blocks, counters and other informal measuring tools. They carefully compared their snakes with their classmates', using mathematical language such as longer, shorter and the same length to describe what they discovered. Along the way, students also strengthened their counting skills as they worked out how many objects long their snakes were and proudly shared their thinking with others.
In Week 5, we extended our learning by becoming "human measuring tools" as we measured our own heights! Students enjoyed comparing how tall they were with their friends and discussing who was taller or shorter, while continuing to practise using mathematical vocabulary in meaningful ways. It has been wonderful to see the children's confidence grow as they explore measurement through hands-on, engaging activities that make learning both fun and memorable!
