Glass Bottles and Glass containers

SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION WITH 12 MONTHS FREE INTERNET AT HOME

The Australian Government has established the School Student Broadband Initiative to provide free home internet for one year for up to 30,000 eligible families with school-aged students.

The initiative aims to boost education opportunities. NBN Co is leading the rollout of this initiative across the country.

How the School Student Broadband Initiative can help your child

Children who can access online learning at home as part of their education are more likely to engage in classroom activities.

Access to fast internet at home can also support children to build their digital skills, learn how to safely use the internet and take part in a world that is more reliant on digital technology.

Eligibility

To be eligible, families must:

* have a child living at home enrolled in an Australian school in 2023

* not have an active National Broadband Network internet service at their home (having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility)

* live in a premises that can access the National Broadband Network through a standard connection. NBN Co will check this for you after you apply

* register interest with your school and complete a consent form to be assessed for eligibility.

How the School Student Broadband Initiative works

If you are eligible, your home internet service will be provided at no cost for one year with a participating internet provider over the National Broadband Network. Each internet provider has its own step-by-step process to get you connected, which may involve you providing identification.

Change of clothes:

If your child is in Prep, or is prone to having “accidents”, please leave a change of clothes in their bag as the school has very little spare uniform to be able to supply a change.

Early Departure / Late Arrival

Early Departures It is preferable that all private appointments for students, including medical appointments, are made outside of school hours. Early pickups can be very disruptive to your child’s teacher and classmates and interrupts valuable learning time. If an appointment needs to be made within school hours, please notify the office via phone (8560 6079) or email (dohertys.creek.p9.co@education.vic.gov.au) in the morning. This ensures that disruptions are minimised and we can have your child waiting for you when you arrive. We do understand that emergencies happen so please help us support you.

Late Arrivals It is important that students arrive at school on time in the morning. Where lateness is unavoidable (after 8:50am), please ensure you accompany your child to the main office where their arrival will be entered into Compass with a reason for the lateness. If your child arrives from 8:50am onwards without you they will be marked late without a reason.

Late Pickups School finishes at 3pm. There has been an increase in the number of students who are not being picked up from school in a timely manner once school finishes at 3pm. It is important to remind parents that there is no staff member on yard duty after 3.15pm. We understand that occasionally things happen that are beyond your control. In these situations, please contact us so that we can notify your child, reassure them and keep them safe until you arrive. When collecting your child, you will be required to come into reception and sign your child out. If this seems to be happening frequently then TJ, Mal, Jess or Brianna will meet with you when collecting your child to discuss any issues that are a barrier to you picking your child up on time. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping keep your children safe and engaged in their learning.

Are you intending to change schools next year?

It's sad to see any of our amazing students leave us but we understand that family circumstances change. If you are leaving us at the end of this year but have not yet informed us, can you please do so ASAP by emailing dohertys.creek.p9.co@education.vic.gov.au . We will need to know the school that your child is moving to as this will assist us in supporting you with the transition to your child's new school.

Please note it is imperative you use compass as all school communications are sent through this platform. It's a good idea to get into the habit of checking your notifications in compass each morning. This will ensure you do not miss anything. Lost Property:

We always aim to return what we can but often when items are unnamed, they are added and remain to the ever increasing lost property pile.

We hope to reunite as many items as possible with their rightful owners. If you think your child may have misplaced anything at the school, please take a moment to look through the wooden create located in the library entrance.

Please LABEL your children's belongings!

We have an enormous amount of lost property that was not labelled. Please make sure that all of your child’s uniform is labelled with their FULL NAME, as well as their lunch boxes, drink bottles etc, so that we can ensure that the lost hats, jackets, jumpers are returned to their rightful owners.

If you have already labelled these items, it is also a good idea to check that they are still legible, as a lot of them have faded or smudged in the wash, making it difficult to identify them.
