CLASSROOM NEWS!

4/5/6 News

School is back! It was lovely to be back, seeing all of the smiling faces (new and returning) and hearing about their summer fun and adventures.

We kick started the year with some fun activities mixed with assessments to see where our learning journey will be starting for term one.

In literacy we started with some holiday recounts by writing a My Holidays acrostic poem.

We started reading War Horse, our focus text for this term and in writing we will be starting with persuasive texts.

In maths our focus has been place value particularly renaming and regrouping numbers.

Everyone has had an AMAZING start to the year!! I have been so impressed with their attitude towards learning and their kindness towards others in our class and whole school.

We will be having house points target for our class this term. If we reach 400 points we will be having a special reward of 'make your own cold rock'.

If they continue on how they have started the year, I have no doubt that they will succeed!

Prep & Grade 1 Learning Highlights

The Prep and Grade 1 students have had a fantastic start to the year, settling into classroom routines and engaging enthusiastically across a range of learning areas.

In Mathematics, students have been busy building strong foundations. Prep students have been learning to recognise, form and match numbers to collections, using hands-on materials, stories, counting games and classroom objects to deepen their understanding. Grade 1 students have been exploring place value, learning how digits can change value depending on their position, and using tens and ones to build and represent numbers in different ways.

In English and Health, students have been developing their emotional literacy through shared texts and discussions. They have been learning to name different emotions, recognise how feelings affect learning, and practise calming strategies to help them feel “ready to learn.” Students also had opportunities to share ideas, listen to others, and build confidence speaking in front of the group.

Through Humanities, students learned about families and how they are connected. They explored the idea that all families are different and special, and created their own family trees using drawings and simple labels.

In Digital Technologies and Science, students explored how technology works and learned to identify living and non-living things. They asked thoughtful questions, shared observations, and connected new ideas to their everyday experiences.

Alongside academic learning, Prep students have been working hard on important school routines, including stopping and listening when the teacher gives instructions, and lining up safely to move around the school grounds. These skills are helping them feel confident, safe, and ready to learn as part of our school community.

It has been wonderful to see students showing curiosity, cooperation, and growing independence as they begin their learning journey this year

Team 2/3

This year we are working together as a team! We have started the year well. Everyone is quickly learning the routines and class jobs of our classroom and school for 2026.

We have started the year in mathematics looking at the calendar and putting together our own class calendar. The kids have been learning to identify different dates, the day of the week the date falls on and how the days of the week continue into the next month!

Literacy sees our class spread out into different groups. the grade twos are continuing on woth their Initialit journey, while the grade threes are having a great time reading 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl and beginning a new spelling program called SpellEx!

In Health, we have been discussing what constitutes an emergency and when we should call 000. Keep an eye out for 'What's My Address and Telephone Number'  to come home for you to fill out with your child. This will help them know what to say if they ever need to call 000. Maybe on the front of the fridge would be a good place to keep it!

Check out these great photos taken by our Paparazzi (class job), Ava!
