SWPBS

The week 1 & 2 focus for SWPBS has been on students raising their hands before speaking and leaving their seats.

Teaching students to raise their hands before speaking and before leaving their seats helps create a calm, respectful, and organised learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn. When students wait their turn to speak, they practise self-control, active listening, and respect for others' ideas. Raising their hand before leaving their seat also supports safety and allows teachers to monitor and assist students effectively. These behaviours minimise interruptions, maximise learning time, and help students develop important social and communication skills that will support them both in the classroom and beyond.

How families can help at home:

• Encourage children to wait for an appropriate pause before speaking during family conversations.

• Model respectful listening by allowing each person to finish speaking before responding.

• Practise taking turns during games, meals, and family discussions.

• Reinforce polite ways of gaining attention, such as saying “excuse me” or raising a hand during structured family activities.

• Praise your child when they demonstrate patience, self-control, and respectful communication.

Students also received their SWPBS reward (voted on by students) of having an extra 30 minutes of lunch playtime on Friday, the 17th of July. This is to celebrate filling up the jar with tokens for displaying our four school values at SSPS of Care, Responsibility, Respect and Resilience.
