Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope that all of our students and families enjoyed a restful break and had the opportunity to spend some quality time together. It has been wonderful to see our students return to school settled, enthusiastic and ready to learn. With the start of a new term we welcome a number of new families to Syndal South Primary School. It has been wonderful to see our students displaying the school values of Respect and Care in welcoming new families to our community.

Term 3 is one of the most significant learning terms of the school year. With uninterrupted weeks of teaching and learning, students make substantial progress as they continue to build on the strong foundations established throughout the first half of the year. In visiting classrooms this week I have been excited to see them buzzing with curiosity, collaboration and purposeful learning, and we look forward to seeing every student continue to challenge themselves and achieve their personal best.

This term also brings many exciting opportunities beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud of our National Aerobics Team, who will represent our school at the National Aerobics Championships later this term. Their commitment, perseverance and countless hours of training have been outstanding, and we wish them every success as they compete on the national stage. We know they will represent Syndal South Primary School with pride and determination.

A reminder to families that registrations for the ICAS Assessments will be closing soon. ICAS provides students with an opportunity to challenge themselves through independent academic assessments across a range of subject areas. If your child is interested in participating, please ensure registrations are completed before next Friday, 24th July. A timetable for the assessments will be sent home next week.

Also a reminder that we have a planned student-free day on Friday 7th August. On this day our staff will be engaged in professional learning with mathematics education expert Ange Rogers, continuing our whole-school focus on strengthening mathematics teaching and learning. The day will focus on developing students' mathematical automaticity, supporting them to build fluency and confidence with key number facts and strategies so they can apply their thinking efficiently and effectively to increasingly complex mathematical tasks.
