2026 Book Week

In Week 7, we celebrated Book Week at Highvale Primary School. The 2026 theme was Symphony of Stories, and students immersed themselves in a variety of new and enjoyable lessons that took their imaginations on different adventures! Some of the highlights of the week were our class swaps, where students went to a different year level for an hour to read a book with a different teacher; our visit from the famed author and illustrator, Martin Chatterton; and our Book Week Parade, which saw students and teachers dress up in fantastic outfits inspired by their favourite book characters.

Highlights from Martin Chatterton's visit:

Hailey PFY: I liked the details the author put into all the pictures!

Markus 3C: Martin Chatterton had a very strong sense of humour. I liked the tension in the story he told! I also liked being drawn as a crow. It was funny!

Adrian 6D: Martin's drawings were very creative, and his stories were funny. I liked his story about when he nearly killed his father in law's budgie. Sometimes Martin uses AI to create new characters or settings, which was interesting!

Highlights from the HPS Book Week Parade:

Ian 3A: I love that everyone dresses up differently. My favourite book is WeirDo because it's funny and I can relate to him.

Kaylee 3A: I enjoyed that I got to dress up as one of the characters from my own book. The title of my book is Happy Bee, and it's about what makes Happy Bee happy.

Gracie 6D: I dressed up as the ostrich from Why Can't I Fly? I took a black T-shirt and added strips of black plastic bags to make the body. I used a glove and googly eyes to make an ostrich head, which looked realistic because my arm was the long neck!

Highlights from the class swaps:

Vinnie 4C: I enjoyed learning about Woi Wurrung words because it was interesting. A new word that I learnt was biik, which means country.

Jane 4C: I liked decorating my page to create a whole-class display using Woi Wurrung words. The word I learnt was onemda-njan, which means I love you!

Kenneth 3L: I liked the class swaps because we went to Year 5E and made a sparkly cake!

Aarna 3L: I enjoyed going to Prep A to make our own Where's Wally? book because I liked how creative we had to be to hide Wally.
