MEPS Assembly Review

What's Changing From Term 4?

Earlier this term we asked our school community for feedback on how whole-school assemblies are working, with surveys sent to staff, our Year 5 and 6 students and many parents. Thank you to everyone who took part.

The feedback was clear and consistent across all three groups. Assemblies are valued for celebrating student achievement, building school culture, providing connection and giving students leadership opportunities. Just as clearly, everyone told us that shorter, less frequent assemblies would work better - with fortnightly sessions the most popular choice with many students noting that assemblies can mean a lot of sitting still!

Taking this feedback on board, from Term 4 we'll be moving to a new fortnightly assembly format, alternating with a new initiative called MEPS Voice:

  • Assembly (Week 1 and even weeks) – Fridays 2:25–3:10pm. Our familiar format continues, with values-based awards, cohort learning shares and expanded student leadership roles.

  • MEPS Voice (odd weeks) – shared with students during Friday eating times. A quick round-up of school news, upcoming events and reminders, led by our Year 6 student leaders.

This new rhythm means assemblies stay a special, meaningful celebration of student learning and school culture, while important week-to-week information still reaches students regularly through MEPS Voice.

Thank you again to everyone who shared their thoughts  - your feedback has directly shaped this exciting change.
