Well done to all students on their hard work to positively complete a busy term of new learning challenges. It has been great to be a part of special moments where students have proudly shared their learning with the broader community through presenting at assembly, sharing with their classmates or proudly explaining it to their parents at a special expo or event. Congratulations to all students who were recognised this term at assembly with an award for showing one of our school values. Whether you received an award for challenge, connectedness, resilience, respect, responsibility or kindness, you should be proud of your efforts to do your best and make our school an amazing place for us to learn and grow together.
Wellbeing Curriculum
As part of our ongoing focus on the development of social/emotional skills across all year levels, we will continue to provide term 4 learning opportunities to explicitly teach our students about themselves and how to have respectful interactions with others.
Early in term 4 we will have Life Education Victoria visit the school to provide structured learning experience focused on body safety, consent and puberty. Prep, year 1 & year 2 will participate in the "Safe Kids, Safe Bodies" lesson with a focus on personal safety and strategies to keep safe. The preps will also have a chance to meet Harold for some extra fun on their learning day! Year 3&4s will learn more about "Body Safety" with a focus on body awareness and consent. Senior classes will deepen their understanding of puberty and how bodies change in their "Welcome to Puberty" incursion. We are looking forward to working with the professionals from Life Education to assist our kids in learning about these important topics.
In term 4, we will continue to focus across our school on Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships. Students will engage in learning to develop an understanding that verbal, physical and emotional forms of violence are harmful, and that these forms of violence can also be gendered. They learn about safe and unsafe behaviours, consent and their rights to bodily autonomy. They will practise strategies they can use to assert their rights to bodily autonomy to be free from coercion or violence. They will develop self-care, peer support, peer referral and help-seeking skills that they can use in response to situations involving gender-based violence within family, peer, school, community or online relationships.
Further supporting our wellbeing curriculum, the school has extended its partnership with Butterfly Body Bright to further support the school and staff with resourcing to build positive body image in our students. Butterfly Body Bright's goal is to help every primary school child feel confident in who they are and the body they have, so they can thrive at school, at home, and in life. Further information regarding Butterfly Body Bright can be found below.
Should you wish to have further discussions or have any questions regarding any aspect of our wellbeing curriculum, please contact darren.thresher@education.vic.gov.au so we can arrange a time to have further conversation.
School Policy
Thank you to the members of our school council's education subcommittee that meets regularly to update and review educational policies that help assist the governance of our school. All school policies are found on our school website for access by any member of the public should they need them. Additionally, some updated policies may also be distributed via Compass directly to our learning community. Below is a link to our policy page should you wish to seek further information about our educational policies and frameworks.
