Principal`s Message

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope all of our students, staff and families enjoyed a wonderful and restful break and are feeling refreshed and ready for a big term of learning ahead. We have certainly hit the ground running, with a busy and exciting start to the term, including our Bastille Day celebrations, which brought plenty of colour, culture and enthusiasm to the school. It has been fantastic to see students reconnecting with their classmates and engaging so positively in their learning from day one.

I would also like to sincerely thank our parent community for your support and understanding during the recent industrial action. We acknowledge the disruption this may have caused for families and greatly appreciate the patience and flexibility shown throughout this period. Your ongoing partnership and support of our staff and school community are highly valued.

National Tree Planting Day

This week, students in some Foundation and Years 3/4 participated in activities as part of National Tree Day, supported by a government grant that enabled us to plant a range of local Indigenous species within our school gardens. Students enthusiastically helped plant Correas, Callistemons, Melaleucas, Grevilleas, Dodonaea, Hakeas and Acacias, learning about the important role these plants play in supporting local biodiversity. National Tree Day activities continue across the community this Sunday, and families interested in becoming involved can look for local planting events and volunteer opportunities in the Fitzroy area to help enhance our urban environment and support native habitats.

Napier Street Update

I am pleased to share that the Napier Street building project is nearing completion. Pending final approval of our Occupancy Certificate, we expect to gain access to the site next week, with the move of students likely to take place during Week 5. It has been a long journey to reach this point, but the end is finally in sight. I look forward to sharing these wonderful new learning spaces with our students, staff and families in the coming weeks and celebrating this significant milestone for our school community.

Somers Camp

We wish our twelve grade 5/6 students a great time away at Somers Camp next week. We hope to hear all about it when they return! 

Foundation 2027 Enrolments

A reminder that Foundation enrolment applications for 2027 are due next Friday. As a school, accurate enrolment numbers are essential in helping us plan staffing, class structures and resources for the future. Parents can play an important role in supporting our enrolment process by helping spread the word about our school within the local community. If you have friends, neighbours, colleagues or family members with children starting school in 2027, please encourage them to contact the office and submit their enrolment forms as soon as possible. Word-of-mouth recommendations from our current families remain one of the most valuable ways prospective families learn about our school, and we greatly appreciate your support in helping us showcase the positive experiences and opportunities available at Fitzroy Primary School.

As we begin planning for 2027, I would also appreciate hearing from any families who are aware that their child may be moving on from our school at the end of this year. Early notification assists us greatly with planning class structures and staffing levels to ensure we are well prepared for the year ahead.

NAPLAN Results

Finally, NAPLAN reports have now been distributed to families. If you have not yet received your child's results, please contact the school office and we will be happy to assist. As always, if you have any questions regarding your child's learning progress, please don't hesitate to speak with your child's classroom teacher.
