The Standout Group is held on Mondays at lunchtime, alternating weeks for Junior (7-8) and Senior (9-12) groups. LGBTQIA+ and allies welcome. See Naomi Mock (College Nurse) in Wellbeing for more information.

Saturday May 17 was IDAHOBIT Day. The Standout Group put together beads from the Rainbow Shoelace Project. These are available for staff who wish to pick up a free pack and show support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Live4Life 2025

On Monday the 12th of May, I had the pleasure of attending Old Gippstown with two of our Year 9 Live4Life Crew students (Ben Skinner and Blake Andrews).

The day was full of fun and great conversations about the prevention of youth suicide and supporting youth mental health in general. On the day Blake and Ben, along with Crew members from all other secondary schools in Latrobe, came together to film a video with some important messaging about youth mental health. We look forward to this video being put together and available to present to our Year 8 students as a part of their Live4Life participation before they complete the Teen Mental Health First Aid in Term 3.

The Year 10 students have also participated in the Teen Mental Health First Aid this term. Thank you to Michael Naughton and Emily Vernon for their ongoing support in the facilitation of this important training for students.

Dental Health

Smile Squad is unable to attend the college with the dental van this year, however they want to remind us that free dental care is available at Latrobe Community Health Service. A message from them is below:

Smile Squad is a Victorian Government program. Every student enrolled in a Victorian Government school is eligible to receive free dental care through the Smile Squad Program. We would therefore like to invite the parents of students at your school to contact Latrobe Community Health Service on 1800 242 696 if they would like an oral health exam or if their child needs dental care. They can be seen (free of charge) under the program at either our Morwell, Moe or Warragul sites.

MEN’S HEALTH WEEK is coming up …..

International Men’s Health Week 9th - 15th June

Men’s Health Week is an opportunity to focus on some of the different ways we can support male physical and mental health.

Important ways to do this are through checking in with your GP and knowing that age-appropriate health checks can save lives.

More information will be on display during the week commencing on the 9th of June.

May: Domestic and Family violence Awareness Month

At Lowanna College we are a Respectful Relationships school, and we pride ourselves on providing strong messages to students and staff about the prevention of Men’s Violence Against Women.

This week we held our Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Day – this was an opportunity to come together and learn about community services and how they can help us.

We had a BBQ lunch and music playing while students had the opportunity to walk around and engage with professionals.

Family violence services are FREE for anyone who needs them.

Breakfast Club

A reminder that Breakfast Club is available Monday to Friday from 7.45am to 8.30am. We encourage students who have not had a bite to eat to come along and get some toast and a hot milo. A healthy breakfast is just the thing we need to help us start the day well.

The Breakfast Club Team are also looking for anyone who would like to volunteer their time to help them on the days we provide Breakfast Club. Please let the Wellbeing Team know if you’d like to help. We are also looking for donations of Milo and cheese. Any donations can be given to the General Office or Wellbeing. Thank you. 😊
