Year 11 Chemistry Excursion

On Tuesday 14 October we took two classes of Year 11 Chemistry students to KIOSC (Knox Innovation Opportunity & Sustainability Centre) at Swinburne University of Technology in Wantirna.

Students were able to explore Lake Argyle in Western Australia using a Virtual Reality experience. This enabled students to see the environmental conditions that can impact the water quality of the lake. 

Later students moved into a science lab where they were able to analyse a sample of the water. They performed various tests including testing pH to measure the acidity or alkalinity or the water, checking what metals are present by trying precipitation reactions and determined the concentration of copper in the water using their more specialised colourimeters (a device used to measure how much light is absorbed by the sample). 

Overall students found it a valuable experience which helped them consolidate their understanding of the analytical techniques covered in Unit 2. 

VCE Arts Soiree

Earlier this term students, families and staff came together for our annual VCE Arts Soirée — an evening that showcased the creativity and dedication of our senior Arts students. Congratulations to all students who showcased work or performed on the evening. 

Guests explored the impressive Visual Arts and Design exhibitions, featuring a diverse range of drawings, paintings, products and folios. Throughout the evening, Drama students performed original pieces, while Media students screened their short films and photography installations. In our Band Room, through the festoon and fairy light pathways, our Music students entertained the crowd with a variety of performances, including some standout pieces from our small jazz combo. 

Thank you to our VCE Arts teachers for their hard work in preparing such a successful event, and to the families and friends who came along to support our students and celebrate their achievements. We are blown away each year by the talent and culmination of an impressive year of growth and learning!
