Noticing Country: Guling (Orchid) Season
As we continue learning from and with Country, students have been invited to pay attention to the seasonal changes around them. We are now moving through Guling Season in the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung seasonal calendar, a time for slowing down and noticing what is happening in the natural world.
At assembly, Chloe C. and Isra B. shared a few words, helping others think more carefully about what we can notice when we observe Country with curiosity, respect and care.
During this season, students are encouraged to look closely and wonder:
- What is changing in the weather?
- What plants are flowering or growing?
- What birds, insects or animals can we see or hear?
- What signs of the season can we notice in our school grounds, gardens, streets or local parks?
Continuing Our Collaborative Artwork
We have also continued making progress on our Finding Our Heart collaborative artwork. Since our last update, students have helped cut out named love hearts and carefully add them to the artwork. This piece is still a work in progress, and we will continue building on it over time as more hearts are prepared and placed.
It has been lovely to see students contributing to this shared artwork, which represents our ongoing commitment to reconciliation, belonging and walking together as a school community.
Living Our Truth: My Story, My Country
Prep students recognised National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day through the 2026 theme, Living Our Truth. Students discussed the importance of truth-telling and completed an activity on ‘My Story, My Truth’, making connections between their own identity, stories and sense of belonging. This learning is linked closely to their ‘Sharing the planet’ inquiry, where students are exploring their responsibilities and the ways we can respect, protect and care for Country.
