Dear Parents and Carers,

House Athletics

Thank you to all our staff, parents and students for making our ASPS House Athletics Day possible. We appreciated the early call made by Mr Parhar (PE teacher) to move to our backup day due the rain and wind that occurred on Wednesday, as todays’ weather was much more conducive for students participating in their various events.

Thanks to our students for each giving it their very best and having a go at all the events. We know not every student loves this day, but it was great to see everyone trying their best and having a go.

Thanks also to all of the staff and parent volunteers for the coordination and organisation, including set up, assisting students, and running of the day. We know there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make an event like this possible, and we truly appreciate you supporting our students

Winter Fundraiser

Thank you to Necole, our PA President and the wonderful team of parent volunteers for organising our Winter Fundraiser tomorrow night. It will be a fabulous event and a good time to get together and have some fun.

Parent Opinion Survey

Every family will soon be receiving an email with details about the Department of Education’s Parent Opinion Survey (POS). We are very fortunate that we have you, our parent community who are willing to share your thoughts and feedback through this survey.

To encourage everyone to complete the survey we will be running a Parent Opinion Survey competition. We are offering a weekly prize of a Readings book voucher, that will be drawn at assembly until the survey closes.

It is very easy to enter. Complete the survey online with your emailed link and password, then email the school office (auburn.south.ps @education.vic.gov.au) to let us know that you have completed the survey. In the subject line type: Parent Opinion Survey.

In the body of the email include your name along with the name/s of your child/ren and their year level or class. e.g. Bernice Hahn, Jules Hahn - Year 6 (or 6B).

Very easy!

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

All families are invited to participate in the survey. It is completely anonymous (which is why we ask you to tell us your name to be in the prize draw).

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. Look out for the Compass alert for more information.

Book Week

We are looking forward to Book Week next week with a number of different class activities based around reading planned for next week. The dress up parade is on Thursday; costumes can be as simple or as complicated as they (and you) want it to be. However, we don’t want any stress or high levels of anxiety because of the costume, keeping it simple is always a good idea.

Also, if students do not wish to dress up, they don’t have to. Casual clothes or school uniform is absolutely fine.

Students Leaving

Please advise the school office if your child is leaving ASPS at the end of the school year or beforehand by emailing auburn.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au. 

This information assists in planning for class sizes, the number of classes and teachers required. We appreciate your assistance in letting us know as soon as you can.

Staff Absences

This year, as with the past few years, there are many bugs and viruses circulating causing both staff and student illnesses. To compound this there is also a teacher shortage, which is reflected in the availability of relief teachers.

We have been very fortunate at Auburn South that there have been only a few times where we have been unable to replace a teacher who is absent due to illness. We have several structures and processes in place to give us the best chance of ensuring we have replacements for sick staff.

However, whilst we try for consistency when someone is away for several days, this is not always possible as replacement teachers are often booked ahead for known leave requirements.

To try to reduce the amount of illness in both students and staff, we encourage anyone who is unwell, to stay home until the symptoms have subsided. This includes everyone in our school community and necessitates that sometimes teachers are absent from their classes because they are unwell.
