St Stephen/Gaudete Campus Library Special Events

Once again, SMC was lucky to have the Seeing Eye Dogs Association visit us. This time it was the Year 8 campus, Gaudete Library on Thursday, 8 May.

We were visited by Hootin (8mth old chocolate labrador), Sia (12mth old golden labrador) and their wonderful and engaging handlers, Liv and Vanessa. It was a successful and memorable event, with students very excited to interact with the dogs, who brought wave of joy and calm into the space. Beyond the puppy cuddles, the visit also raised valuable awareness about the important role Seeing Eye Dogs play in our community, supporting people with vision impairment and the level of dedication and training that goes into every Seeing Eye Dog puppy. It was a paws-itively enriching and informative session, with everyone involved leaving with a smile.

Poetry incursion with Joel McKerrow

Joel McKerrow is an internationally recognised performance poet who has entertained audiences around the world.  And in early May we were lucky enough to welcome him to the St Stephen/Gaudete Campus. Joel addressed the Year 8 SGC students over two sessions, performing some of his poems and giving students the chance to try their hand at creative writing.

Joel explained that creative writing is about telling a story and he encouraged students to write for themselves telling a new revised version of their own personal stories.

We look forward to repeating the event for next semester to give inspiration to all Year 8 writers and storytellers.
