From the Classroom - S1 (Mr Bell)

S1 students have been working hard on their fractions unit, developing their understanding of key concepts such as identifying fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. They have also been learning how to simplify fractions and apply these skills to a range of problem-solving tasks. It has been great to see students growing in confidence and accuracy as they tackle more complex fraction work.
S1 have recently completed their narrative writing unit, where they planned, drafted and published their own creative stories. To celebrate their hard work, we held a special celebration afternoon where students shared their writing with others across the senior unit. Students provided positive feedback and reflected on each other’s work, creating a supportive and encouraging environment. It was wonderful to see the pride students took in their writing and the growth they have made.
In Reading, students have been working hard on developing structured reading responses, focusing on making inferences, connections and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text. We are also enjoying our class novel Blueback by Tim Winton, where students are exploring important themes such as overfishing, environmental sustainability and conservation. Students have shown great engagement and thoughtful discussion during our reading sessions.
