Stay Safe Online: E-Safety at Our School
At Miners Rest Primary School, we are committed to helping every student become a safe, responsible, and respectful user of technology. As children spend more time online for learning, socialising, and entertainment, understanding e-safety has never been more important. We aim to equip our students with the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate the digital world safely.
What is E-Safety?
E-safety is about using the internet and digital devices in a way that protects your wellbeing and privacy. It includes understanding how to keep personal information secure, recognising unsafe or inappropriate content, and knowing how to respond to online situations that may feel uncomfortable or risky.
Key Tips for Students
- Keep personal information private – never share your full name, address, school, or passwords online.
- Be kind and respectful – treat others online the way you would in real life.
- Think before you click – not everything online is safe, accurate, or appropriate.
- Use trusted websites and apps – check with an adult if you are unsure.
- Speak up – if something worries you or makes you feel uncomfortable, tell a trusted adult straight away.
How Families Can Help
Parents and carers play an important role in supporting e-safety at home. You can help by:
- Talking regularly with your child about their online activities and experiences
- Keeping devices in shared family spaces where possible
- Setting clear rules and screen time limits
- Using parental controls and privacy settings on devices and apps
- Encouraging children to come to you if they see something upsetting or confusing
It’s also helpful to explore apps, games, and websites together so you can better understand what your child is using and guide them appropriately.
Working Together
E-safety is a shared responsibility between school and home. By working together, we can create a positive and safe digital environment where students feel confident, supported, and informed.
Let’s work together to stay safe, smart, and kind online!
