Principal's Views

As we head towards the final two weeks of Term 2, there have been some highlights over the last couple of weeks and some exciting end of term events coming up.
We acknowledged National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week. The theme for 2026 was ‘All In’ - a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day. ‘All In’ means everyone is included. During this time EVPS participated in Wear It Yellow Day and many other activities. Thank you to those families who chose to donate to this important cause – you can donate at any time throughout the year to support First Nations – led education, health and community development.
There have seen some great sporting achievements recently, we had 5 students represent EVPS at the Division Cross Country at Kilmore Racing Club, see the Sports Update in this newsletter.
The District AFL Girls & Netball Boys Gala Day is on Monday 15th June at Mill Park Lakes Reserve and Diamond Valley Stadium. We wish all the students who were selected the very best of luck and look forward to an update in the next newsletter.
Students in Prep to Year 4 who participated in Performing Arts this Semester are gearing up for their end of term performances. Please refer to the information provided via compass.
Grades 2-4: Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd June at 2.30pm
Prep & Grade 1: Friday 26th June at 9.15am (the final whole school assembly of term 2).
The students have been practicing every week and are very excited to showcase their talents.
Refugee Week 14th June to 20th June - A Million Stories
Refugee Week is an annual celebration to recognise and showcase the contributions of refugees in enriching our communities and culture. At EVPS we have an ongoing partnership with the Refugee Education in Schools Project to support us to build our capacity and understanding of trauma-informed practice and supporting families from diverse backgrounds.
We are very excited to showcase our participation in this project where we worked with a number of families from diverse backgrounds across the school to increase a sense of belonging for our students and families. A huge congratulation to all of the students, families and staff members for their contribution in supporting other schools across the state.

This year’s theme is ‘A Million Stories’.
In response to the impact of World War II, Australia signed an initial agreement in 1947 to receive 4,000 refugees from Central Europe. Since then, Australia has issued one million permanent humanitarian visas to people from around the world. Refugee Week 2026 is a chance to reflect on this milestone and celebrate the million stories behind it.
Next week, and beyond we continue to celebrate the inclusive communities and welcome and support those seeking refuge.
The Austin School and EVPS Outreach Program
Further to my Compass update about the Austin School - you may have noticed the fence has been put up around two of the red portables and the existing sandpit. EVPS will be getting a new sandpit installed near the nature play area.
We are also in communication with the VSBA (Victorian Schools Building Authority) to remove some of our other disused portables. A large number of the aqua portables are marked for removal and once these works are completed we aim to replace the senior wooden playground. Towards the end of last year, students and school council gave feedback on proposed new designs. We are excited to continue to work on upgrades to our school playgrounds.
Staffing Updates
Epping Views has been getting smaller over the last few years, as new schools like Wollert, Wirrigirri and Umarkoo have opened up. We have gone from over 1000 students to 570 in just a few years.
As we grow smaller, we are likely to see some EVPS staff gaining opportunities in new schools. Whilst it is very sad to see them go, we know they will go onto their new schools and share all of the great knowledge and skills that they have developed here.
Farewells are never easy and it is always with mixed emotions that we share news of staff members who are moving on.
We congratulate Sun Pezzimenti for picking up a new position at Heathmont East Primary School. We thank Sun for the contributions to our Performing Arts Program and all of the great concerts that she has organised for students to showcase their talents. Sun starts at her new school in Term 3 and we look forward to celebrating Sun at the end of semester Performing Arts Concerts in Week 10.
Student Led Conferences
Bookings are open for Student Led Conferences in week 10 on Wednesday 24th June from 10-6pm. This is an opportunity for your child to celebrate their learning and achievements this semester. It is also a good opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their teacher.
Please book in a conference with your child via the Community menu on Compass and select the 2026 Semester 1 Student Led Conferences or use the link from your child’s Compass dashboard. Students are only required to attend school during their meeting.
Student Spotlight
At EVPS, we love celebrating the achievements of our students both in and out of school. If your child has recently participated in a sporting event, performed in the arts, achieved success in a community activity, or has an interesting extracurricular story to share, we would love to feature them in our Student Spotlight section.
If you / your child would like to be considered for the EVPS Newsletter - Student Spotlight, please complete the Expression of Interest Form and include a draft article and up to 5 images.
Attendance
A couple of important reminders;
- Arrival time is at 8.50am for the morning meeting, class sessions are well underway by 9am.
- If your child arrives after 9am they must be accompanied by an adult and signed in at the office.
- Please notify us via compass of your child’s absence and record the accurate reason. For example, if your child is unwell, please select ‘medical/illness’ rather than parent choice. Accurate reporting helps us to maintain clear records and support student wellbeing.
