Welcome to IPS
As we continue to mark National Reconciliation Week, our school community is deeply engaged in learning about the rich history and vibrant cultures of Australia's First Nations peoples. A powerful highlight of this commitment occurred on Monday morning, when our Year 6 student leaders opened the whole-school assembly with a beautifully crafted, specially written acknowledgement of country (see below) and followed up with insightful recounts about the Sorry Day Healing Ceremony they attended last week.
Acknowledgement of Country: All in for Reconciliation Week 2026
This week, as we learn more about National Reconciliation Week we pause to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn and work, the Wurundjeri Woi‑wurrung people of the Eastern Kulin Nation.
We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and we extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our school community.
This year’s Reconciliation Week theme reminds us that reconciliation is not the responsibility of just a few, it is something every one of us takes part in.
By listening, learning, and acting with respect, we help build a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are valued and their cultures are celebrated. May we carry the spirit of All In in the way we treat one another, the way we learn, and the way we walk together on this shared land.
On Mabo Day (Wednesday), the whole school were fortunate to enjoy a journey into Australia’s First Nation Dreamtime through an interactive andvibrant experience with Majeda Beatty!
Majeda engaged students in the richness of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island cultures. Her interactive and immersive performance was tailored to our students through song, dance, stories and language, all with high levels of participation. Majeda discussed the flags and also demonstrated various instruments, artifacts and costumes specific to each culture as well as the importance of ochre and the significance of the body paint designs in Aboriginal culture. Majeda performed and taught students dances and songs. She was particularly impressed with our students' knowledge of First Nations culture and how welcoming she felt we were.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed the performances, joining-in with singing, dancing, learning about cultural artefacts and learning more about Dreamtime.

2026 Year 6 Camp - please get on board!
I'm happy to give up my day for your children!
Will you join me at FAIRFIELD BUNNINGS?
Dear year 6 families,
We are reaching out for your support as we work together to make our Year 6 Canberra Camp as affordable as possible for all 75 families in our cohort. As you know, camp is a milestone experience that builds independence, connection, and lifelong memories.
To help reduce costs for every family, we will be running a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser on Sunday June 28th, from 8:00am to 4:00pm, and we need your help to make it a success.
To run the day safely and smoothly, we must fill every volunteer slot across the full eight hours. Even one hour of your time will make a meaningful difference. Every dollar raised directly reduces the cost of camp for your child and their peers. Your contribution genuinely benefits the whole community.
We are also seeking one parent to take on the role of BBQ Captain. This is a key leadership role on the day, and we would be incredibly grateful to anyone willing to step forward.
Responsibilities include:
Registering to use Bunnings’ free Mobile Payments (if our group chooses to use it)
Being on site for the full duration of the BBQ
Checking in with volunteers and ensuring everyone is feeling well
Ensuring volunteers report any concerns immediately
Overseeing and completing the required BBQ clean three times throughout the day
Completing the end‑of‑day reporting of expenses and total funds raised

Your generosity, time, and community spirit will directly support our students and help ensure that every child can participate in this unforgettable learning experience.
Thank you in advance for anything you can offer, big or small. Together, we can make this fundraiser a success and lighten the financial load for all families.
Sincerely,
The Year 6 Team

Divisional Cross Country
Well done to the 12 students who ran in the Banyule division cross country event on Wednesday morning. Congratulations to the seven students who made it through to the regional event on 17th June:
A reminder that Friday 5th June is a Curriculum Day - OSHC will be operating from 7:30am to 5:30pm. Make sure you've booked a place. See OSHC Page for details.
Whilst there will be no school for students, our staff will be engaged in various professional learning activities. Our Education Support Staff will focus on enhancing support strategies for students with individual education plans and teachers will conduct learning walks at local schools to observe and share best practices. In the afternoon, the entire staff will collaborate to dive deeper into student wellbeing, ensuring we continue to foster a safe, supportive, and thriving school community.
As Monday 8th June is a public holiday, I wish all our families a wonderful, safe long weekend and look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday.
