Aged between 17 and 25 years of age and identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. 

 

Please note, applicants can apply at 16, however must be 17 years old upon selection to a Cadet school.

The School of Indigenous Studies supports Indigenous Year 12 students to attend the July WACE revision programfor free. To be eligible, students should be taking 3 or more ATAR subjects. All accommodation and travel costs are covered for regional Year 12 students.

30 June applications close: Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology (Light Vehicle Pre-Apprenticeship)

NM TAFE Midland Campus

 

As a pre-apprentice you will learn how to work in a Mechanical

Workshop, use hand and power tools, work on engines, and change tyres. 

 

During the course you will learn the basics of light vehicle mechanics and gain these skills:

  • Carry out servicing operations
  • Inspect and service engines and steering and suspension systems
  • Use and maintain workplace tools and equipment
  • Apply basic automotive troubleshooting processes

Must be 17 at the start of the program.

  • Term: 21 July to 11 December 2025
  • Classes: Monday to Wednesday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm and Thursday 8:30 pm – 1:00 pm

This course is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates looking to start a career in Rail. 

You will learn the basics of Rail Operations and gain these skills: 

  • Identify hazards and work safely within the rail corridor 
  • Identify railway layouts, features, and components
  • Care and use of hand tools and minor mechanical equipment
  • Measure, mark up and cut, and install rail
  • Install railway sleepers and fastenings

You must be 17 years old or above at the start of the program.

Indigenous School Based Traineeship:  Cert II in Applied Digital Technologies for Year 11 students 

Programmed, in partnership with Fortescue, is offering a school-based traineeship for students currently in Year 11. You will work one day per week, every Tuesday during school term – from Fortescue’s head office in Perth.
