Principal's Message

Dear Parents / Carers,

As any of you who do the drop off in the morning or the pick up in the afternoon would know, there has been an increase in the presence of parking officers patrolling our school over the past few weeks that have resulted in a number of people receiving heavy fines and loss of points from their license.

One of the reasons for this is due to the complaints being made by members of the public around the actions of some of our parents / carers.

Please be aware of the following restrictions; (and if someone else picks up your child in the afternoon please make them aware)

  • Parents should not arrive before the Turning Circle prior to 3:00 PM, The process takes about 15 minutes, and parents arriving after 3:05 PM are likely to have a much shorter waiting time. Teachers are on duty at the turning circle until 3:30 PM
  •  Vehicles arriving before 3:00 PM and parking longer than the maximum 2 minutes may be issued penalty notices by Sutherland Shire Council Parking Officers or NSW Police.
  •  After 3:00 PM vehicles may wait in the Turning Circle pick up line and move forward as required to pick up their children. Vehicles should queue such that they are not blocking the flow of traffic, intersections or the safe thoroughfare of pedestrians. YOU MUST NEVER STOP ON THE PAINTED YELLOW LINES.
  • Parents should display their surname on the passenger side of their front windscreen, on duty teachers will direct parents where they are to stop, alert students and assist them into the vehicle.
  • The pick up line shall form around the Cul-de-sac of Belmont Street and north to Flora Street and then east along Flora Street to the end of the No Parking zone. As pedestrian traffic from the school eases teachers may move the head of the pick up line north to the intersection of Belmont and Flora Streets, to accommodate more vehicles in the Belmont Street cul-de-sac.
  •  Vehicles must not stop on the Corner of Flora and Belmont Streets between the “No Stopping” Signs – This prevents the safe crossing of pedestrians. Vehicles stopping here may be issued penalty notices for stopping in a No Stopping Zone
  • Be aware of the Pedestrian Crossings on Flora and Belmont Streets these must remain safe crossing points for children. You must not stop or queue on a pedestrian crossing AT ANY TIME.
  • Vehicles must not queue beyond the end of the No Parking Zone on Flora Street. If you arrive and the No Parking Zone is full you MUST continue on and return at a later time. Parking beyond the No Parking Zone blocks the flow of traffic, vehicles stopped here will be considered to be Double Parking.
  •  Parents should not turn right from Flora Street into Belmont Street to access the school during the operation of the pick up line.
  • As you are about to turn into Belmont Street be EXTREMELY CONSCIOUS that children may be crossing that street.......keep your eyes open.

I understand how frustrating it is but please understand that these processes are put in place TO KEEP ALL MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY, INCLUDING OUR STUDENTS, SAFE!

Also be aware that NSW Police and /or the Council have the power to STOP our car line should they feel that it has become too dangerous and we would hate for that to occur.

VOLUNTEER INDUCTION SESSIONS

Thank you to those parents / carers who recently attended these sessions.

If you wish to apply to volunteer you must engage in the appropriate induction provided by the school and complete the Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS)  Safe Schools Expectations Undertaking: Volunteers form.

This includes helping out at sport carnivals, going on excursions etc.

SCS require this training to be done EVERY year.

I will be conducting two more induction sessions early next Term. More information, including how to register, will be sent home before the end of the Term.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY

Just a reminder that NEXT Friday, 27 March, is a STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY. The staff will be working with Dr Simon Crook around the implementation of the new Science Syllabus.

The School will be closed on this day.

Kind regards,
