HSIE

To the Brigidine community,

Welcome back to what will be a busy term in HSIE, firstly we would like to wish our year 12 students the very best for their HSC exams, this year sees a hectic timetable for HSIE courses with both Modern and Ancient History taking place back-to-back in week 2 then the triumvirate of Economics, Business Studies and Legal Studies all featuring in week 3, Geography closes out the exam block taking place in the final session. On behalf of the staff, we have no doubt that the hard work, perseverance and practice will pay off over the coming weeks.

Last week also marked the beginning of the year 12 course for 2025 graduates, there was a keen sense of anticipation and excitement as students began to unpack their new assessment grids and syllabus. We wish this group all the best for the challenging year ahead in strong collaboration with their teachers.

Over the last month year 9 and 10 Commerce students have participated in in the Australian Schools Sharemarket game run by the ASX, this has given students the opportunity to test their investment skills and build some confidence in understanding how the sharemarket works as an investment tool, a number of groups have done exceptionally well including our current leaders:

  1. Anastasia Dudek, Elisabeth Bernhardt
  2. Lara Robinson
  3. Danah Alzahrani, Claudia Crossley, Oriana Landgrave Escalera, Lara Sarkissian

All the best for the rest of the competition!

Later this term, year 9 will be given the opportunity to attend a young entrepreneurs day run by UTS as part of their Commerce studies, this will allow them the chance to hear from a range of successful young people that have overcome a range of challenges to achieve corporate and commercial success.

Across our other subject areas the HSIE department looks forward to wrapping up our key units and finishing strongly with our assessment tasks, we also look ahead to begin planning for next year's success.

As our final assessments approach a reminder to please use the assessment notifications for suggestions on how best to prepare for each task.

To all of our HSIE students - all the best for the remainder of the school year

Kind Regards,

David Martin

Head of HSIE
