National Wattle Day 

Last week, we gathered in La Foresta to celebrate National Wattle Day, honouring Australia’s national floral emblem and reflecting on the themes of unity, belonging, resilience and connection to place.

We were privileged to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, who joined us in planting a wattle tree alongside invited guests. 

The ceremony also featured a beautiful performance by our College Choir, the unveiling of “Brisbane Wattle” artwork by Abby S (Year 12) and a reading from our poetry competition winner, Racquel (Year 8).

The celebration was especially meaningful as it coincided with the first day of the Season of Creation, inviting us to reflect on our shared responsibility to care for our common home. As a Franciscan community, we give thanks for the natural world that surrounds and sustains us, and for opportunities to nurture hope for future generations.

We thank the QLD Wattle Association for their invitation to host this event and celebrate the golden wattle as a symbol of connection, growth and the enduring spirit of our nation.
