Around the Classrooms

The Performing Arts classroom has been busy and fun with the start of Term four!
5/6s
The Grade 5/6 students have begun working on the Grade 6 graduation performance. The focus will be on developing singing and dancing skills, and combining these for a performance. Although the grade 5s won’t be performing on the day, they are still working on their performance skills in class - I’m impressed with their integrity and responsibility towards learning as they embrace the singing and dancing despite only performing for me. The Grade 6s are excited and I can't wait to see what they perform on the day!
3/4s
The 3/4s have just finished filming their scripts for their drama unit, which has showcased their amazing acting skills. I'm impressed not only with their acting but also their editing in Canva! Going forward we'll be returning to instruments (piano, recorder and other instruments) to remind them of their note reading which we did earlier in the semester. This will flow into Christmas carols later in the term.
1/2s
The 1/2 students have just started learning two new songs. The one they are singing is called "I turn on the tap" and it goes with another song which we will be learning soon called "I walk to the stream". Both of these songs can be sung together or in a round, to help develop their audiation and listening skills as well as their singing ability. Students have also started learning and improvising to jazzy jive with their dance moves, which will move into improvising on instruments very soon!
Preps
The Preps have learned the Calypso dance by Susie Davies-Splitter (if you play it at home, you might get a concert performance!). The students have learned the dance moves so well we've progressed to using ribbons (see photos). They're also using their voices and bodies to help convey ideas in drama by repeating the same line "I'm not a banana, I'm a mandarin" in different ways (scared, happy, excited, angry etc). I can't wait to see what emotions they come up with in the next lesson!
