WEEKLY WELLBEING ACTION

''Get more active this week and  give your mind and body a natural boost."

Prep and 1/2 Feeling Safe Incursion

Last week our Junior students participated in the Feeling Safe Incursion. They explored their right to feel safe and develop their understanding of body ownership and personal boundaries. Age-appropriate stories, songs and activities  supported students to learn about private and public body parts respecting personal boundaries and identifying trusted adults. Students explored early warning signs and how bodies can let us know when something doesn't feel right, such as a racing heart, butterflies in their tummy or sweaty hands. They practised being assertive and using the "No! Stop! Don't!" power phrase. Take a look at our students learning about all these important life skills in a safe, fun and engaging way.

Respectful Relationships Education

Respectful Relationships education is embedded within the Personal and Social Capability and Health and Physical Education curricula, supporting students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to understand themselves, manage emotions and build positive, safe and respectful relationships. Through these interconnected learning areas, students develop empathy, resilience, communication and help-seeking skills that support their wellbeing and enable them to interact respectfully with others. This learning is taught from a Catholic perspective, grounded in the dignity and worth of every person, compassion, inclusion and respect for others, and is delivered in an age-appropriate manner that reflects students’ developmental needs and stages of learning.

Teachers embed these concepts across the curriculum, empowering students to understand their rights, contribute to decisions that affect them and have their voices heard, in line with Child Safe Standard 3.

Over this term, our students consider the influence of gender norms on attitudes, opportunities and behaviour. They learn about gender equality, inclusion, human rights and the importance of relationships that respect all people. Students develop an understanding of safe and unsafe behaviours that can affect individuals and how these behaviours may be influenced by gender. They explore and practise strategies to communicate their boundaries, assert their rights and seek support when they feel pressured or unsafe. They also develop self-care, peer support, peer referral and help-seeking skills to respond to situations involving harm within family, peer, school, community or online relationships.
