Bunjil Awards
Bunjil awards recognise student achievement and those who display our school values of being respectful, responsible and kind. Well done! All of our weekly winners enjoyed a hot chocolate or zooper dooper with a principal. This process is always a great chance for us to hear from the kids and ask them some questions about our school.

Thunderstorm Asthma & Grass Pollen Season: Important Reminders
Grass pollen season (October to late December) brings an increased risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma. This is a sudden, serious, and potentially life-threatening event triggered by a mix of high pollen and specific storm conditions.
Anyone can be affected, even if your child has no prior history of asthma. If your child has current, past, or undiagnosed asthma, or suffers from seasonal hay fever, they are at risk.
What Buninyong Primary School is doing:
- Monitoring Forecasts: Our staff monitor the VicEmergency epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast.
- Protecting Students: We will keep students indoors with windows closed and air conditioning set to recirculate if a high-risk forecast or storm occurs.
What we need you to do:
- Share Action Plans: Provide the school with an updated Asthma Action Plan signed by your GP if your child has asthma.
- Provide Medication: Ensure your child has an in-date blue reliever puffer and spacer stored securely at school.
- Check for Asthma: If your child gets spring hay fever (sneezing/itchy eyes), see your GP to check that they do not also have undiagnosed asthma.
- Download the App: Download the VicEmergency App and set up a "watch zone" for Buninyong to receive real-time alerts.
Asthma First Aid Reminder:
If a storm hits, stay indoors and close all windows. If anyone shows signs of asthma (wheezing, coughing, or shortness of breath), implement the 4-step Asthma First Aid plan immediately.

Thank you for helping keep our school safe.
First Aid Training for All Students
This week, we are pleased to welcome St John Ambulance to Buninyong Primary School to deliver First Aid training to all students on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October.
Each class will take part in an age-appropriate session designed to teach students important first aid and emergency response skills. Students will learn what to do in an emergency, how to seek help and some simple first aid skills, helping them build the confidence to respond when someone needs assistance.
This is a valuable opportunity for all of our students to develop practical, potentially life-saving skills that they can use at school, at home and in the wider community.
We look forward to welcoming the St John Ambulance team and seeing our students develop their First Aid knowledge and confidence!
Thankyou Buninyong!
Mphatso Children’s Foundation - Footy Colours Day Fundraiser
A huge thank you, yet again, for your amazing support for Mphatso Children’s Foundation on our Footy Day!
You raised an incredible $1,166.45 for the children in Malawi! That’s 10,550 bowls of porridge for hungry kids! What a difference you have made in their lives.
For more information, visit the Mphatso Children’s Foundation website or Mphatso Children’s Foundation on Facebook.
Walk and Talk
As the days get warmer and the sun starts to shine, we are bringing back ‘Walk and Talk’ in term 4!
All students are welcome to come to the school oval from 8:20am on Tuesdays and Thursdays to complete laps and contribute to their year level total. This year all year levels are competing for a trophy against the EBT Team. They have been in training all year and are pretty confident that they can do more laps than any other year level.
At each lap, students will collect a peg, whether they get one, or twenty, it all goes towards their year level tally for that week. After the week, pegs will be totalled to see which year level (or the EBT team) completed the most laps for that week to keep the trophy in their room.
So come on down to the oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays, walk around the oval with your friends and earn pegs (and kilometers) for your year level.
