Dear Sacred Heart Community,
I was extremely fortunate this week at our school to attend two excursions with great teachers, wonderful LSO's and fantastic parents. On Tuesday, the Year 3/4 students visited the Melbourne Museum, in particular Bunjilaka and the Milarri Garden. They learnt history from the perspective of First Nations peoples and their connection to land and how they use the land for food, implements, tools and medicine. They also visited other great exhibits, including one on Melbourne which gave them a sense of the city in which they live over the past 200 years.

On Friday I travelled with the Year 5/6 students into the city to visit a number of landmarks as part of their History unit. We saw scarred trees from before colonisation, to viewing magnificent acrhitecture, such as Treasury Building, Parliament House and Flinders Street Station. We visited famous arcades, like the Block Arcade and visited the NGV Ian Potter Gallery, where our history comes alive through various artforms.

Both excursions filled me with a great sense of pride about our school. Students were totally engaged in the learning process and wanted to know more about the history of this country. All students from Year 3 to Year 6 should be proud of the way they involved themselves in both excursions, it was a pleasure to be there with them. Thanks to Abby, Rebecca, Cettina, James, Marie, Davide, Emma and Janine for making both excursions such wonderful learning experiences for our students!

Have a great week everyone!
Regards,
Marty
