Primary Happenings

Student Leadership Conference
Jude Shields, Head of Senior Primary
“Created for Good” was the theme of this year’s Student Leader Conference, drawn from Ephesians 2:10: “We are God’s handiwork.” With this reminder of purpose and identity, 26 of our Primary House Captains and Student Ambassadors joined student leaders from 21 Christian primary schools across Victoria for the 2026 conference.
Organised by Sower Leadership, the event united young leaders to explore what it means to embody and practise Christ‑centred leadership, and how they can positively influence the world around them. The program equipped students with the confidence, practical skills, and spiritual grounding needed to lead with faith and purpose within their school communities.
Throughout the day, students took part in interactive leadership activities and heard from inspiring speakers, including Olympian Eloise Wellings. There were also valuable opportunities to connect with leaders from other schools and build community.
Students were encouraged to reflect deeply, recognise the leader within themselves, and consider how God has uniquely created each one of them for good and meaningful purpose in the world.
Year 3: ACMI Excursion
Harry Foster, Year 3 Team Leader
As part of our Year 3 Inquiry unit, Media in the Making, students recently visited ACMI for an exciting and enriching learning experience.
Throughout the day, students explored the history of media and moving images, discovering how film, animation and technology have evolved over time. The interactive exhibits sparked curiosity and encouraged students to think about how media is created and shared.
A highlight of the excursion was a hands-on stop motion workshop. Students learned about the process of animation and worked collaboratively to plan and create their own stop motion films using LEGO. They demonstrated wonderful teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills as they brought their ideas to life frame by frame. It was a fantastic day of learning and creativity. We look forward to showcasing the students’ stop motion projects at our Parent Showcase later this term.
Year 5: Podcast Incursion
Mariah Reed, Year 5 Team Leader
Year 5 students recently participated in a full-day podcasting masterclass with MiniBoss called The Studio. Throughout the day, students explored the complete process of creating a podcast - from planning and structuring an episode to recording, editing, and producing a final product.
Using professional audio software, they learnt how to script engaging introductions and conclusions, hold natural conversations, and refine their recordings through careful editing. Students also wrote show notes to clearly communicate their message and audience. It was an exciting and hands-on experience that deepened their understanding of how media communicates meaning and prepares them to create their own podcasts this term.
