First Eucharist Masses

We are looking forward to gathering as a community and celebrating our candidate’s reception of the Sacrament of Eucharist at the Parish Mass on either Saturday 1 August 6pm, Sunday 2 August 9:30am or Sunday 9 August 9:30am. Thank you to our Year Four teachers and Mrs Richardson (RE Leader) for preparing the children over the last few months, and for also organising the Reflection Day today. Thank you to Father Tom and Father John who will celebrate these Masses for our children and families, and a special thank you to all the students (and their teachers), who created many beautiful cards for the children. These were gratefully received.

 Reflection Day

The Year Four students continued their First Eucharist preparations with a morning Mass today. Following the liturgy, they participated in a series of activities designed to deepen their understanding of the sacrament. The day continued with a picnic-style lunch in the School Hall, where students enjoyed a well-earned treat of potato cakes and chips. It was a meaningful and memorable day for our Year Four students, who embraced the opportunity to spend time in prayer and reflection. We now look forward to the upcoming celebrations over the next two weekends, as our students prepare to receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Sacred Heart extends its warmest blessings to all students and their families as they celebrate this significant milestone in their faith journey.

Canberra Camp 2027

Sacred Heart Kew’s camp program includes a biennial week long trip for our Year 5 & 6 students to Canberra to visit the numerous national capital exhibitions on offer. In the past we have found the experience to be a terrific one for all students which builds on units of work to be completed upon return to the classroom. The dates for 2027 are Monday 15 February to Friday 19 February.

To assist us with finalising numbers for next year, we ask that you indicate whether your child will be attending the 2027 Canberra Trip by completing the form on nForma by Monday 3 August.

PARENT & CHILD INFORMATION EVENING - Wednesday 18 November (6.30pm - 7.30pm)

All current Year Four and Five parents (and child/ren attending the Trip) are invited to an Information Evening which will take place on Wednesday 18 November at 6.30pm. This will be held in the MPR. All FINAL itinerary and information regarding the Canberra Trip will be presented to families at this time.

Prep 100 Days of School

We have another exciting event for our Prep students this term! To celebrate our Preps100th day of school, we will be holding a fun-filled “100 Days Brighter” celebration on Friday 7th August. To mark the occasion, students are invited to come to school dressed in bright, colourful clothing to help us make the day as bright and cheerful as possible! Families are also welcome to get creative by making a special “100 items” T-shirt as well if they wish. Students can decorate a t-shirt with 100 objects such as stickers, pom poms, buttons, googly eyes, fabric paint, safety pins, stamps, cotton balls, or any other creative materials they choose. Students who make a t-shirt can proudly wear it on the day as part of the celebration.

Sport News

This term, there are many exciting sporting opportunities for our students to develop their skills, confidence and teamwork. Students will participate in a range of sporting events and competitions that encourage active participation, resilience and fair play. These experiences will help students refine their physical skills, learn the importance of cooperation and perseverance, and enjoy representing our school in a positive and supportive environment. We look forward to seeing our students embrace these opportunities and give their best throughout the term.

Interschool Sport

The Senior students completed the Interschool Sport program today, competing in the final Netball, AFL 9s and Soccer matches.

3/4 Soccer Gala Day

All Year 3 and 4 students have been invited to a Soccer Gala Day where they will play against other schools in our North Balwyn schools district on Friday 7 August. It's a great way to introduce competitive soccer to children and a chance for those already in soccer teams to compete against other children in our district. The day is all about maximum participation and having a go. No prior skill or team experience is necessary. There is no progression through to another competition day.

Senior Hockey 7s Gala Day

The Senior students have been invited to compete in a Hockey 7s Gala Day on Friday 21 August at KBH Brumbies Hockey Club (Box Hill Hockey Club) on Elgar Rd.

Athletics Day

On Wednesday 2 September, selected Year 3-6 students will participate in District Athletics Day, competing in a range of track and field events, including the sprint and long distance races, relay races, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus. 2026 School Closure Days

As was communicated to families last year...

* Time in Lieu (TIL)

The current Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) has a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.

Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.

Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
