Gardening Program Update

Garden Soil Delivery

A BIG THANK YOU to Iskra (Adelina's mother), Kevin (Julian and Samantha's dad), Zhou (Mokki's dad) and Simon (Max's dad) for helping move the soil into the garden beds and our orchard along the fence. It helped that the weather was kind to us on the day.

The soil in our garden beds dropped about 20-30 cm over the year and was very depleted. The garden beds look great now. We have started planting our winter crop now and are looking forward to a healthy and productive crop.

Snow peas - Living Things Unit

As part of the Living Things unit, Prep to Year 4 students explored the science of gardening by planting and observing snow peas. Through this hands-on project, students discovered exactly what seeds need to sprout and grow into healthy, thriving plants. The learning came to life when they transplanted their young seedlings directly into the school garden beds. This rewarding experience perfectly connects classroom science to the practical, hands-on skills.

Seeds Donation

While exploring the vibrant displays at the recent Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, I had the chance to chat with representatives from both Yates and Diggers Club. They shared how they support schools by providing flower and vegetable seeds from their range to help gardening programs.  After I reached out, both organizations sent a seed pack for our school.  A big thank you to the Diggers Club and Yates for their generous support! We look forward to planting the seeds in our garden.
