🧠 Building Mental Health Literacy

We know that mental health is just as important as physical health. As part of our ongoing focus on student wellbeing, we are continuing to build our understanding of mental health and wellbeing across our school community.

One important part of this is developing mental health literacy. This means helping children (and adults!) understand what mental health is, recognise emotions and challenges, know when to seek support and learn ways to look after their wellbeing. Just like we teach children about healthy eating and exercise, it is important that we also teach them about emotions, resilience, relationships and coping strategies.

Reducing the stigma around mental health concerns is another important focus. Sometimes people may feel embarrassed, worried or unsure about talking about their feelings or asking for help. We want all students to know that it is okay to talk about emotions and that everyone experiences challenges at times. Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Families play an important role in supporting children’s wellbeing. Simple conversations at home about feelings, friendships, worries and positive coping strategies can make a big difference. Encouraging children to talk openly, helping them name their emotions and reminding them that trusted adults are always there to support them can help build confidence and resilience.

Together, we can continue creating a safe, supportive and understanding school community where every child feels valued, supported and connected đź’›

As part of our work to support students mental health and wellbeing, throuogh the MHiPS initiative, we are hoping to gather feedback from families to help us better understand parent perspectives around how mental health and wellbeing is supported and managed at St Anthony’s.

I would appreciate if all families could complete this survey by Friday 5th June:

Your feedback will play an important role in helping guide our future wellbeing initiatives and supports across the school.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue working together to help all students feel happy, safe and supported at school. đź’™
