Music Notes
Mr Francis Blakiston
It’s been another busy week in the Music department. Last week saw Viva Voci perform at the Kodaly Choral Festival, which was an opportunity for our students to perform alongside students from Scotch College, Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar and Huntingtower. While Viva Voci performed beautifully, it was quite a sight and sound to see all of the students perform as a massed choir at the end.
On Monday 15 June, we also saw our Year 7 African drummers and Year 8 Taiko drummers perform at the 7/8 Concert. Thank you to the parents that attended the concert as it certainly means a lot to the students to be able to perform to a supportive audience of friends and family. I would like to thank Ms Kirsten Boerema for her hard work with the Year 7 African drummers and our resident Taiko expert Toshi Sakamoto.
Next term, we have our Annual Music Camp, held at the scenic Oasis Camp site in Mt Evelyn. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our ensembles to prepare for the Music Gala on Tuesday 8 September. It’s also a uniquely special moment for our Senior School musicians to mix and socialise with each other. The Friday evening activities organised by the Year 12 Music Leaders are a highlight for all the students.
This semester has also seen more than 20 students sit an AMEB exam in Sessions 1 and 2. I would especially like to congratulate these students for their hard work preparing for these exams.
