NAIDOC Week

Gallery Image

The theme for 2026 is 50 Years Deadly.

Deadly means strong. Deadly means proud.

Deadly means creative. Deadly means courageous.

Deadly means community.

This theme reminds us that these fifty years did not happen by accident. Generations of Elders, leaders, artists, activists, families and communities worked hard to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices were heard, cultures were celebrated and stories were shared. As a Catholic school community, we believe every person is created in God’s image and every culture reveals something beautiful about God.

During NAIDOC week  we celebrate the world’s oldest continuing cultures and give thanks for the wisdom, resilience and spirit of First Nations peoples. We also remember that celebrating is not enough. We are called to listen, to learn, to walk together, and to help build a future where justice, respect and reconciliation are lived every day. As we mark fifty years deadly, we celebrate the past, give thanks for the present and look with hope towards the future.

NAIDOC Week Prayers:

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, especially Elders who share wisdom,

culture and leadership, may they always be honoured and respected. We pray.

Creator God, hear us.

For all who worked to keep NAIDOC Week strong over the last fifty years,

may their courage continue to inspire us.  We pray.

Creator God, hear us.

For the care of Country, may we protect the land, waters,

skies and all living things entrusted to us.  We pray.

Creator God, hear us.

For our nation, may we grow in truth, justice,

reconciliation and peace.  We pray.

Creator God, hear us.

For our school community, may we learn from one another and

celebrate the gifts each person brings.  We pray.

Creator God, hear us.

For young people across Australia, may we be brave,

kind and proud builders of a better future.  We pray.

Creator God, hear us.

Loving God, hear these prayers and help us walk together

in friendship, justice and peace.

All: Amen.
