From the Principal

June, 18 2026

It has been a fantastic week at POPS, filled with learning, connection and celebration.

We began with a vibrant whole‑school assembly featuring a beautiful choir performance and a confident presentation from 3/4M about food chains and how living things depend on one another.

We also welcomed preschool children and their families for Storytime. With a colour theme, our Year 6 Library Team led stories, rhymes and hands‑on activities, creating a joyful start to the week for our youngest visitors.

Our Year 6 students took part in a Proactive Policing cybersafety session with First Constable Lisa, learning how to stay safe online and understanding online behaviours that become illegal from age 12.

Yesterday, our Foundation students enjoyed a special morning with their grandparents or special person. They explored classrooms, completed an activity together and toured the school. The morning finished with a delightful student performance and a morning tea in the Arts Centre, a wonderful celebration of family and early learning.

SCHOOL COUNCIL UPDATE

On Tuesday night, we held our Facilities and Education Sub‑Committee meetings, followed by our School Council meeting. These meetings play an important role in guiding school operations, planning future projects and ensuring responsible governance.

Our councillors provide valuable oversight and support for the school and its leadership, helping keep our priorities and programs aligned with the needs of our students and community. To read more about the meeting please the visit the School Council page.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

We’d love to celebrate our students. Please send through any achievements, big or small, that your child would like to share with our school community.

Congratulations to Chloe C (5M), who represented POPS at the Eastern Region Cross Country Carnival at Yarra Glen Racecourse. She competed in the 11‑year‑old girls 3km event and finished 31st out of 80 runners, a fantastic effort.

POPS BIG FREEZE – POSTPONED (Monday 2nd June)

Our POPS Big Freeze Fundraiser has been postponed due to predicted bad weather. It will now be held on Monday at 3:00pm on the basketball courts. Everyone is welcome to come along and support our efforts to raise money and awareness for MND.

If we reach $500, I will have a bucket of ICE poured over me!!!

LEARNING CONFERENCES – Next Week

Our Learning Conferences will take place next week, with a revised format focused on students and parents/carers discussing academic progress and setting clear Semester 2 goals.

Students are expected to attend with their parents/carers. Each conference will begin with the student sharing a piece of work they are proud of and explaining why they chose it.

The remainder of the conference will follow a simple structure:

  • Parents/carers and students can ask any questions about the Semester 1 report.

  • The teacher will discuss areas of academic progress and work with the student and their parents/carers to set Semester 2 learning goals.

Students will take their Learning Journals home after the conference to share and discuss with their families.

Parent Feedback

POPS is committed to providing meaningful and engaging experiences for all students and families. We would love to hear your thoughts about our school activities, events, and programs. Your feedback helps us celebrate what is working well and identify opportunities for improvement. We would like it if you could take a few minutes to complete a survey and support our continuous growth as a school community.

Have a great weekend,

Ms Garrity
