I feel very fortunate to be the Principal of Park Orchards Primary School. I’ve worked at POPS for over 20 years, and it continues to be such a special place to come to work each day. I’m passionate about creating a school where every child feels known, supported, and inspired to learn.

I love working with our dedicated staff and families to build a strong, inclusive community where wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. One of my favourite parts of the job is getting into classrooms and seeing the curiosity, humour and creativity our students bring to their learning. Another highlight is greeting students and parents each morning, it’s the best way to start the day.

Outside of school, I enjoy simple things that help me recharge: spending time with my family, reading, being outdoors, riding my bike, and discovering new places for a good coffee. The students know that if Ms Garrity hasn’t had her morning coffee, things can get a little cranky!

Anyone who knows me also knows I’m a passionate Western Bulldogs supporter. I’ve ridden the highs and lows over the years, and being at the 2016 AFL Grand Final to see the Bulldogs win remains one of my all‑time favourite memories.

I absolutely love POPS and our community, it is a wonderful place, and we are so lucky to share it together.

I've been part of the POPS community since 2009. During that time, I have taught students across Years 3–6, as well as other year levels before joining POPS. Throughout my career at the school, I have worked as a Classroom Teacher, Learning Specialist and, since 2023, Assistant Principal.

One of the things I love most about POPS is its strong sense of community. From day one, I felt that everyone belonged, and that welcoming culture continues to be one of the school's greatest strengths. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a wonderful school community.

Whether I was in the classroom or in the role I'm in now, my greatest sense of achievement has always come from watching students succeed. I particularly enjoy seeing students who may initially feel that learning is too difficult develop the confidence to have a go, persevere, and experience the pride that comes with success.

Each morning, I love greeting students individually, seeing their smiles, and receiving a cheerful hello in return. I also enjoy spending time in classrooms, working alongside teachers and students.

Outside of school, I live with my husband and have two adult daughters. My eldest is a paramedic and, over the past few years, has kindly visited our Foundation students, bringing an ambulance to school and sharing how paramedics help people in our community. My youngest daughter has always been passionate about dance and now works as both a dance teacher and an Occupational Therapist.

Rounding out the family is our cheeky little dog, Bella, who keeps us all on our toes, along with a few chickens.

In my downtime, I love nothing more than curling up with a good book in front of an open fire with a cup of tea—or something a little stronger, depending on the day!
