A Message from Ruth

In the past few weeks, I have been working with a class using The Zones of Regulation as part of their Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program. The Zones of Regulation is a framework that helps students recognise and understand their emotions, identify how they are feeling and learn strategies to manage their emotions and behaviours.

In classes, the students learn about four colour-coded zones:

•     Blue Zone: Feeling sad, tired, sick or low.

•     Green Zone: Feeling calm, happy, focused and ready to learn.

•     Yellow Zone: Feeling frustrated, worried, silly, excited or overwhelmed.

•     Red Zone: Feeling extremely angry, scared or out of control.

It is important for children to understand that all zones are okay! There are no good or bad emotions. The aim is to help children recognise which zone they are in and learn what they can do to feel more regulated. Our goal is not to keep children in the Green Zone all the time. It is to help them understand that every emotion is valid and to develop the skills and confidence to manage their feelings in different situations. By using the same language and encouraging these strategies at home and school, we can work together to support children to become more emotionally aware, resilient and independent in managing their emotions.

Have a chat to your children and see if they can identify some zones they were in during the school day.

Have a good week everyone

Ruth Zweck (PCW Monday and Tuesday)

Join Our Governing Council

We are inviting parents and carers to consider joining the Uraidla Primary School Governing Council.

The Governing Council plays an important role in supporting our school’s direction and helping to strengthen the partnership between families, staff and the wider school community. Being part of the council is a great opportunity to have a voice, share ideas and contribute to decisions that support student learning and wellbeing.

No special experience is needed — just an interest in our school and a willingness to be involved. Meetings are held regularly throughout the year, and we welcome new members who would like to make a positive contribution.

If you are interested in joining, or would like more information about what is involved, please contact margie by emailing margie.sarre187@schools.sa.edu.au

We encourage anyone who would like to support our school community to get involved.

Casual Day – Friday 13 November

The theme for our casual day is “Someone you are inspired by or a hero to you.”

Students are invited to dress up as a person who inspires them or someone they consider a hero. A gold coin donation is requested. This event is hosted by the SRC.

Remembrance Day Ceremony

On Tuesday 11th November, Uraidla Primary School will be hosting a service at the Uraidla District Soldiers Memorial (at the entrance to the town oval) from 10.45am for Remembrance Day.

Please come and join as we remember those who fought with our service and observe a minute's silence.

Headlice

We have recently had an increase in cases of head lice at school. We ask all families to please check their children’s hair regularly and begin treatment promptly if any signs of head lice or eggs are found. If you do find lice, please notify the school and treat your children before returning to school.

Treatment products are available from your local chemist, and your chemist may be able to advise the most effective treatment. Regular checking, early and follow-up treatments can help reduce the spread within the school community.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Bushfire preparation

It's that time of year again, when our minds turn towards preparing for the possibility of a bushfire. We regularly review the bushfire policies and procedures we have in place at school and have practised a 'shelter in place' drill with all students and staff this week.

We encourage all families to consider your bushfire plans and any preparations you can make now, which may help in the worst-case scenario of a fire in our area this season. The Department for Education has developed some resources you may find useful, which you can access through these links: Bushfire season preparation advice for families

bushfire season preparedness brochure (PDF 5.7 MB)

Please also remember that children can only be signed out by adults who are on the list of Emergency Contacts. If these have changed, or anyone's contact details, please let us know at the front office as a matter of urgency. Thank you!

Uraidla Primary Facebook Group

If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a Facebook group for UPS families, and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.

It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council, and parent admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by Facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.

Enrolment in Reception

If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled or registered their interest to start school.  Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.

Please note that the Kindy and school zones are not the same. Enrolment in the Uraidla and Hills Community Preschool does not automatically mean you will have access to enrolment at Uraidla Primary School. Please contact our front office for clarification.

Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.

If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)

Enrolments for the start of 2027 are now overdue, and we hope to have enrolments for the mid-year 2027 intake finalised by February. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!

If you are still unsure or interested in booking a school tour, please contact the office on 8390 3209.
