Little Flyers Transition Program

For the past three years, Little Flyers has been an important part of our transition to school program at LNPS, supporting children and families as they prepare for the exciting step into Reception. We are now welcoming our sixth cohort of Little Flyers, and over this time the program has supported many children to begin school feeling familiar, connected, confident and ready for their next adventure.
Little Flyers is about so much more than simply visiting school before Reception begins. Through regular transition sessions, children become familiar with our school environment, teachers and routines, begin building friendships with their future classmates and develop the independence and resilience they will need for a successful start to school. By the time their first day of Reception arrives, many of the faces, places and routines of school already feel familiar.
This term, our newest Little Flyers have been very busy! Across our sessions, we have explored Happy Goodbyes, practised important school routines, built new friendships and developed confidence and independence while learning through play, stories and hands-on experiences.
We have also explored our LNPS school values through a very popular Pig the Pug themed session, using the much-loved stories to talk about friendship, kindness, respect and making positive choices. During Book Week, our Little Flyers explored some of this year’s wonderful books and brought the stories to life through lots of fun, creative craft activities.
Most recently, we explored our LNPS learner quality Curious Minds. Inspired by Iggy Peck, Architect, Rosie Revere, Engineer, Ada Twist, Scientist and Aaron Slater, Illustrator, our Little Flyers became architects, engineers, scientists and illustrators themselves. They built, designed, experimented, investigated, wondered and created, finishing with an exciting Coke and Mentos experiment on the oval!
It has been wonderful to see how much confidence, independence and resilience our Little Flyers have already developed this term. We are so proud of our sixth cohort and look forward to continuing their transition journey next term as they get closer to becoming our newest Reception students!
