Students Continue to Excel

We are proud to share our 2026 NAPLAN results with the community. 

RNPS students have continued to perform not only above the schools in our area but also the schools identified as being similar to ours in size, demographics and family education levels. 

I have inserted a few of the graphs showing these results for those that are interested, I know that it's not everyone's cup of tea, so if a graph puts you in cold sweats, I'll share some of the headlines. 

One of the trends I am most proud of is the reduction in our number of students who fall in the 'Needs Additional Support' category. Our teachers and leadership have been working hard to ensure there is plenty of targeted support, as well as effective instruction for everyone as frequently as possible and we have seen the number of students achieving in this category fall to almost zero across both Years 3 and 5. There are always impediments and challenges for students, so it's no fault of theirs if they fall in this category, but what this figure shows me is that we are directing our intervention in the right areas and to great effect.

We have also seen a whopping 96% of Year 3 students achieve a Strong or Exceeding level in Writing. This is a subject that we are regularly looking at and feel there is still room for improvement in, but this result reassures us that we have high expectations in this area backed up by strong performance. 

We are also proud to see our Numeracy scores in both Years 3 and 5 are stronger than similar schools and network schools. This is a subject teachers have put a lot of additional effort into in the last 18 months and can be reassured that the results are following. 

While I understand that academic scores, and in particular NAPLAN scores, are not the primary focus for many families, it is important that we recognise success in all areas and there are many students who are demonstrating commitment, confidence and achievement in their learning.

Congratulations also to our Netball and Football interschool sport teams who both won their Division Playoff matches today. This means both teams will progress to the Regional Competition in two highly competitive sports.

Thank you, PFA Helpers

A big thank you to our PFA Volunteers who have been assisting with a variety of events in recent weeks. From the Doughnut Day in June to preparing for the upcoming Disco and Father's Day Stall, the children are very fortunate to have your caring, fun activities to get involved in throughout the year. 

Don't forget to note the Working Bee in your calendar. Many hands makes light work and a pleasant, pizza party for all. 

Industrial Action

Thank you for your patience and understanding in these moments. It is never ideal when these processes reach the point of taking stop work action and I know without a doubt that our staff make the decision very reluctantly. 

There have been a lot of issues conflated in this process and I don't believe that all the grievances teachers have will be addressed in the eventual agreement. However, I did want to emphasise one aspect, being the funding of government schools. 

There are many issues regarding workload, conditions and support that teachers are fighting for currently that are unrelated to pay rises. In essence, a large part of what is being argued for is better, fairer funding for schools that allows them to do the job they love. These are big issues and one system and one state won't fix it. Our government commitment to funding schools - at all levels of government - has been appalling over the last 2 decades. 

I don't believe there is a single candidate in the upcoming State election willing to express a commitment to full funding for government schools in the near future. The earliest we have, and it still isn't locked in, is 2034 before Victorian government schools will be fully funded. Unless you are planning to have a child in 4 years time, that means all your children currently will be completing their education in schools that are being short-changed. It's not good enough. 

As I do with any election, I ask only one thing: please consider public education and the commitment from governments to fund schools sufficiently so that we can continue to achieve great results and provide the very best environments and conditions for your children and our staff.
