Year 5 - Kiah Thomas Virtual Author Visit

Our Year 5s are eagerly anticipating connecting with author Kiah Thomas on 4th June. Please help us by completing the consent for your student.

Engaging with Authors

Engaging with authors is a wonderful way to inspire students to read, write, and see themselves as readers. Meeting the person behind a book can spark curiosity, motivation, and a lifelong love of stories.

We’ve spotted a free virtual author event with award winning Australian author, Tristan Bancks. This would be ideal for upper primary students and parents.

Meeting Matt Stanton

On the 10th May I met Matt at a bookstore in West End. He is the author and illustrator of Funny Kid, Bored and many more. We were there to celebrate the launch of his new series Duck. And learn how he makes books.

Matt explained that he had challenges making Duck, such as how it would fit into Funny Kid, the story that Duck originates from, and whether the storyline would make sense. He could not start until he had answers. He got them when moving homes. He thought about these questions and told stories about why he thought they were extremely funny. Matt also decided he was going to put a comic strip on every page, but he regretted that. We then made our own comic strips and learnt how to draw the main characters. Lastly, we got our books signed.

Meeting Matt was one of the best experiences in my life.

Prep Playtime – Library Play Day

From Term 2, our Prep students are welcome to visit the library in playtimes. Each class has a rostered day to visit. What joy we have welcoming them to the space. They’ve been reading, relaxing, listening to stories from Year 6 students and had fun free drawing.
