Principal's Message

Term 2 Week 4 15 May 2026
From the Principal
Hi Everyone,
It is great that we now have a finalised School Council to move forward with. Congratulations again to Mr Rabiul Alam and Mrs Jacq Romero who have been elected to represent the parents and caregivers of our school community. I look forward to working with them and the rest of our School Council.
The Westside Strings have been on all this week and I'm just about to drive over there to listen to a concert from a group of the children. I have no doubt it will be extraordinary. Thank you to Mrs Trudy Weekes for making this wonderful opportunity happen for our kids. On Thursday next week, it is Fanfare and I am so excited to watch our children perform!
If you are into containers for change in your household, and I most certainly hope you are, please take note that this is the number for Ironside State School. If you take your containers to a Containers for Change Depot and you want to donate the money back to our school, and specifically to our Green Team, that is the way you do it. We greatly appreciate any donations we receive.
I have some old yearbooks here of from various years that I am giving away. We already have copies here in the school and these are extras. This will be a case of first in can have them. If you pop into our office, they will be there.
More sporting trials are on now. We have Basketball, girls’ Rugby League, and Softball. All the very best to all the children who are trialling.
Congratulations to all our Prep to Year 3 Merit Certificate recipients of this week's assembly. We are proud of all of you.
The Year 1 Choir were our entertainment at assembly, and they did such an outstanding job, I just loved it. Year 2 just felt they had to join in too, and so they were included at the last minute and did a magnificent job. Congratulations to all of them and to Mrs Marianne Huxley. On Monday next week, it will be a Year 4 - 6 Merit Assembly and the Chamber Strings will be performing.
Next week, the Prep Vision Screening team will be coming in and we are so grateful. No matter what year level your child is in, having regular vision and hearing screening is very important and can be done outside of school as well.
Coming up next week on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM, there is an information session for all of you wonderful parents who are hosting a Japanese student when the different schools visit us. Thank you to Mrs Shelley Lee for overseeing this wonderful opportunity.
I am so very concerned about our society and what has happened over the last couple of decades with technology use. Please can I ask that we stand together and be strong when it comes to limiting our children’s tech use and especially their use of social media platforms e.g. Discord, Instagram etc. Children must be 13 to be accessing these, so lean in on these rules and tell them no. We have had children misusing social media to treat others badly and that is not ok. It is not their fault; they are simply too young and underdeveloped to manage these adult situations.
Please note that in the parent learning section in a newsletter I have included a link to a podcast that I shared with our staff on the pitfalls on technology in schools. I've no doubt that many of you would find this a very interesting listen and I urge you to do just that.
Have a wonderful week.
