THS’s and Rotary Club of Preston partnership

As part of our Italian language program, we have partnered with Rotary Preston to help facilitate student exchanges with Liceo Malpighi, our sister school in Bologna, Italy.

Rotary are an accredited Student Exchange Organisation and are very experienced at organising student exchanges all over the world.  Rotary will work with the Rotary in Bologna to make sure that our exchange program is successful and sustainable for many years to come.

To develop the partnership between Thornbury and Rotary, our students attended a Rotary meeting held over lunch at the Darebin RSL on the first Wednesday of the Term 1 break.  The meeting presented an opportunity for our students to meet members of the Rotary club and share a little of their background and interests as well as what has motivated them to undertake the exchange.

Our exchange students were also invited to be part of the ANZAC day dawn service at All Nations Park.  It was a very moving service with several members of the local community speaking about the importance of the day.  Students led the placing of Poppys on the ANZAC memorial then later helped the Rotarians serve bacon and egg rolls to the people who had attended the service.

This year Greta Schumacher, Mathilda Lee, Elsie House, Japsar Conway and Leo Devcic are travelling to Italy for the five week exchange.  They will be the third group of Thornbury students who have undertaken the exchange.
