Year 9 Geography Camp

As part of our Year 9 Geography program, students had the chance to participate in an optional three-day, two-night camp in beautiful Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula, running from Tuesday 22 April to Thursday 24 April.
Students camped at the Sorrento Foreshore, sleeping in school-owned tents and using trangias to prepare their own meals. Working in pairs, they planned their menus in advance, purchased ingredients, and cooked for themselves—an excellent opportunity to build independence, responsibility, and teamwork skills.
Over the three days, students explored a variety of coastal locations and experienced the unique geography of the Mornington Peninsula, visiting Fort Nepean, Bushrangers Bay, and Sorrento’s front and back beaches. Whether walking through the bush and admiring the rugged coastline at Bushrangers Bay or relaxing by the calmer waters of Sorrento front beach, students were able to observe just how different the two sides of the Peninsula can be.
Along the way, they engaged in plenty of informal discussions about the natural features of the area, the impact of tourism, and Sorrento’s local history. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.
Unfortunately, the much-anticipated dolphin swim with Moonraker Dolphin Swims had to be cancelled due to rough seas. While this was understandably disappointing, students adapted well and continued to make the most of their time away.
A big thank you to Ms Pieropan and Ms Robertson for generously giving their time and energy to support the camp and ensure everything ran smoothly.
The camp will be running again in Term 4, giving next semester’s Year 9 Geography students the chance to opt in and enjoy this experience. Stay tuned!
