Library

Term 2 has been a blur of fantastic events, focused classes and lively lunchtimes in the Library! Makerspace has still been bustling, our borrowing statistics are up and having the LEGO out at break times has been lots of fun.
Star Wars Day
On May the 5th (since May the 4th was a Sunday) THS celebrated Star Wars Days by gathering in the Library in fantastic costumes! We had a Princess Leia, Darth Vaders, Jawas, a Kanan Jarrus, a Kylo Ren, an Anakin Skywalker, a Tusken Raider, a Mandalorian and Jedis aplenty. A big thank you to Mr Bason for helping students with their costumes and coming in on his day off, and to Ms Dowlin for taking these awesome photos and dressing up too!
Wide Reading Program - Term 2 Reading Challenge
Our Wide Reading Program at THS runs from Years 7 to 9 and involves students having an opportunity to borrow books from the Library, as well participating in fun activities and learning how to use different parts of our Library Catalogue and website. The Year 7s particularly have learnt a lot about the Library so far this year and it is always lovely to see so many keen readers. To encourage students to expand the range of texts that they engage in, we have been running the Term 2 Reading Challenge. Students go in the draw to win one of 3 exciting prizes if they tick off three of the reading tasks in a row. They also receive a surprise mini prize for completing all nine tasks! Competition has been fierce and the volume of books completed so far is very impressive.
Library Leaders
Our Library Leaders program has just begun with more than 20 keen students signing up to help with borrowing, returning, shelving and creating displays in the Library. They have all been doing a wonderful job, picking things up quickly on the job and bringing lots of passion and excitement to the space!
Staff Book Club
The THS Staff Book Club had our second meeting and discussed the book ‘If an Egyptian Cannot Speak English’ by Noor Naga. For the most part, people enjoyed the book and found the ending really brought it together. It has been a fabulous way to connect with bookish staff from across different departments in the school and I am looking forward to our next meeting.
Yarn Club
The newly established Yarn Club has had two meetings so far this term with staff and students coming together to learn and practice knitting, crochet and other yarn arts. A big thank you to Ms Pereira, Ms McDonald and the Wellbeing team for coming along to support.
