St Michael’s School Advisory Council Report – Term 4, 2026

Term 4 is now well underway, and there is plenty happening at St Michael’s as we head towards the end of another busy and rewarding school year.

Firstly, I would like to officially welcome Damien to St Michael’s. Leading a school is no small task, particularly in an ever-changing educational and financial environment. It requires dedication, fresh thinking, collaboration and a strong commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed. I wish Damien every success in his new role and look forward to seeing St Michael’s continue to thrive under his leadership.

At our recent School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting, we discussed a number of important updates and initiatives.

Parents and Friends Group – Making a Difference

Our Parents and Friends Group (P&F) has done an exceptional job throughout the year, organising events that bring our school community together while raising valuable funds to support our children.

Two highlights have been the school disco at the end of Term 3 and the ever-popular Toastie Van. Both events were very well attended, with plenty of smiles, fun and enthusiasm from the children. Just as importantly, the funds raised will help support future activities and initiatives throughout the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.

Previously, we identified a new playground as a key fundraising priority. It is wonderful to see that playground now completed and ready for our students to enjoy. I am sure it will provide countless hours of fun, play and friendship for both current and future generations of St Michael’s students.

To everyone who has volunteered their time, helped organise events or supported the P&F throughout the year, thank you! Your efforts make a genuine difference to our school and help create the wonderful sense of community we value so highly.

Planning for 2027

Damien provided the SAC with an update on preparations for the 2027 school year, including enrolments, school fees, class structures, the impact of the new enterprise bargaining agreement and changes to school funding.

There is certainly a great deal to consider as the school plans for the year ahead. Balancing these changes while maintaining high-quality learning opportunities, providing appropriate resources and technologies, and nurturing a compassionate and supportive environment will require careful planning and thoughtful decision-making.

We look forward to receiving further information from Damien in the coming weeks as these plans develop.

Friday Lunch Orders

Friday lunch orders will continue for the remainder of the term. Uptake has been encouraging so far, with feedback generally positive. It is great to see this initiative providing another convenient option for families and something for the children to look forward to at the end of the week.

Child Safety Update

Angela provided an update on the work she and the teaching team have been undertaking to implement the 11 Child Safe Standards. Work has progressed across 10 of the standards, with further attention being given to their understanding and implementation.

This is important work that reinforces our shared responsibility to ensure every child feels safe, respected, supported and valued at school. Continuing to embed these standards into everyday school life will help strengthen St Michael’s as a safe and welcoming environment where all children can learn and flourish.

Building Program Update

The building project has now moved into the defects and final rectification stage. With the exception of a minor sewage issue, the identified defects have largely been aesthetic rather than functional, and the remaining works are expected to be completed soon.

It was also pleasing to hear that the project remains within budget. With the new library, playground and staff lounge completed, and the new music and art spaces forming part of the broader development, these improvements represent an exciting investment in the future of St Michael’s and the learning experiences we can offer our children.

A New Vision for St Michael’s

In my Term 2 report, I mentioned that St Michael’s was reviewing its school vision statement. Since then, further work and consultation have taken place, and the process continues to move forward.

I know Damien and the staff are excited about sharing the new vision and explaining what it will mean for the school community in the coming weeks. A clear and meaningful vision will help guide our direction, reflect our shared values and ensure we continue to provide an education grounded in faith, care, respect and a commitment to every child's development.

Thank You and Looking Ahead

As we move through the final term of the year, I would once again like to thank all our volunteers, SAC members, the Parents and Friends Group, and the dedicated staff at St Michael’s.

The time, energy, care and enthusiasm you contribute make an enormous difference. Together, you help create the safe, supportive and faith-filled environment in which our children are encouraged to learn, develop and flourish.

It is a privilege to be part of a community that continues to work together for the benefit of our children. Thank you for everything you do to make St Michael’s such a special place.

Although there is still plenty to look forward to before the end of the year, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful remainder of Term 4 and, when it arrives, a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and restful holiday break.

Thank you all for another fantastic year at St Michael’s!
