Positive Attitude Towards School
Helping your child have a successful entry into school
Fostering a positive mindset towards school in young children is all about shaping
their attitudes and emotions so they feel safe, excited, and confident about starting
school.
Below are some effective strategies to cultivate a positive attitude towards school,
both before and during their school experience:
● If possible, visit the school ahead of time to explore the school and meet the
teacher. Familiarity helps to reduce worries and builds student confidence.
● Talk about school in an exciting way (e.g., discussing the fun parts of school,
such as making friends, playing outside, art time, reading, etc.)
● Role-play “school” situations at home (e.g., listening to the teacher, waiting
for their turn in the lunch line, asking for help from the teacher, sitting for
story time)
● Create and maintain a consistent morning routine before going to school
each day
● Celebrate their daily progress and effort
