Year 10 Sailing
On Thursday 27 February the EXCEL Sport class had an exciting day at the Mornington Yacht Club, diving into the world of sailing. For many, it was their first time mastering this technical skill and with perfect conditions for beginners, most students succeeded right away. The girls set sail in the morning, quickly picking up the basics and enjoying the smooth, friendly conditions as they navigated the boats. Meanwhile, the boys stayed on the beach, preparing for an upcoming Beach Volleyball tournament. After a delicious BBQ lunch, the groups switched places. The boys faced windier conditions for their sailing session, which led to a few challenges, including capsizes, waterlogged boats and swinging booms. Despite these hiccups, everyone left the beach with smiles, proud of their efforts (even if a few injuries were involved). A big thank you to the Mornington Yacht Club for providing excellent learning conditions and to Mr. Robinson for sharing his wealth of sailing knowledge with the students on the water.

2025 Victorian Beach Volleyball Schools Cup Championships
On Tuesday, March 4th and Thursday, March 6th, Year 8 and 10 EXCEL Sport students participated in the 2025 Victorian Beach Volleyball Schools Cup Championships at South Melbourne Beach. The event featured 25 schools from across Victoria, including several volleyball academies and private schools, competing in either the Pairs or Fours competitions. Patterson River Secondary College entered 12 Fours teams over the two days, delivering impressive results. The Year 8 Boys Three team (Marley, Lenny and William) reached the State Round of 16 qualifying finals and finished equal 9th in the State. The Year 10 Boys Two teams (Hendrix, Harper, Alexander and Casper) and the Year 10 Girls One team (Izzy, Rubie, Saraya and Phoebe) both advanced to the State Quarter Finals, securing equal 5th place in the State. The standout performance came from the Year 8 Boys Two team (Raph, Angus, Baxter and Zayne), who made it to the State Grand Final after defeating several top volleyball schools. Although the final didn’t go their way, earning a silver medal against such strong competition is a remarkable achievement. This success highlights the excellence of the EXCEL Sport Program and the competitiveness of our students throughout the two days. A big thank you to Ms. Brand and Mr. Flavelle for their ongoing support and coaching during the tournament.
